The Associated Press Poll No. 1 South Panola Tigers are in the middle of a season which still has a lot of football left.
The Tigers (5-0 overall, 1-0 district) will host the Olive Branch Conquistadors "Quistors" (3-2, 0-1) in the homecoming game tonight. The queen will be crowned in halftime ceremonies.
This Quistors team is four points away from being a perfect 5-0 team.
Olive Branch started the season 3-0 then ran into some brick walls with some 5A teams. Grenada and Olive Branch went neck-and-neck two weeks ago, but Grenada emerged with battle scars 6-3. The same could be said about the district matchup between Southaven and Olive Branch last week.
Olive Branch led through most of the game. The game was tied at 7 until Olive Branch kicked a field goal to lead 10-7 at halftime.

Cougars and Lions Renew Catfight

SARDIS – Coming off an intense, high pressure loss to Independence, the North Panola Cougars will jump right back into the mix.
Tonight the Cougars (2-3 overall, 1-1 district) are back on the road for another catfight with the Tunica Rosa Fort Lions (2-3 overall, 0-2 district).
Head coach for the Lions is Clifton Davis, Jr., former head coach of North Panola. Also on staff with the Lions is former Cougar assistant, Glen Newson.
Cougar head coach Brown Walker was an assistant coach under Davis at one time.
Of the three games the Cougars won last year, the Lions game was one of them. North Panola won 14-8 in overtime in the final game of the season for both teams.
This year with the schedule switched around, the teams meet each other in the middle of the season.
Tunica mounted some points against Senatobia last week but were unable to make a big inroad in a 30-14 loss. The week before Cleveland decimated the Lions 60-18.

Green Wave and Colts to Battle

The North Delta Green Wave will travel about 1 1/2 hours southwest to Cleveland to take on the Bayou Academy Colts tonight at 7:30 p.m.
The Bayou Colts have an overall record of 2-4 and a district record of 1-1. The Colts lost to Kirk Academy 14-12 and defeated Marshall Academy 21-16.
Last year, the Colts came to Green Wave field on homecoming night and the Green Wave shut them out 39-0. Tonight, the Colts will be looking for revenge especially since they are on their own field.
This is always an advantage to the team to be at home and have all of its fans behind it. Last year when the Green Wave played the Colts, the Colts were in the same position as the Green Wave now. North Delta is 1-1 in district and needs this win tonight. Some of tonight’s players who played last year in this same game are Scott Powers, Cody Hallmark, Harrison Nickle, Brandon Ciaramitaro, Hal West, Rocky Reed, Ryan Overall, Hank Spragins, Scott Ross, and Adam Goodwin.
Captains for tonight’s game will be Scott Powers and Hank Spragins who are both seniors.
According to Green Wave head coach Rick Johnston, Bayou has a heck of a football team. Bayou shut out Leake Academy last Friday night 28-0.
