The biggest test of the season will come tonight when the South Panola Tiger team travels to New Orleans to take on the G. W. Carver High School Rams.
South Panola jumped over Wayne County in the Associated Press Polls Tuesday to the No. 1 spot in the state. This ranking change has started many talks around the state.
Comments ranged from South Panola and Wayne County might as well be No. 1 and No. 1a.
According to published reports on , South Panola took the top spot by the slimmest of margins in the Top 20 poll.
The Tigers, who have outscored their two opponents 114-0, held a one-point lead over Wayne County, 180-179.
The War Eagles were preseason No. 1.
Last week, South Panola had more first-place votes than Wayne County, but was stuck in second place. This week the roles reversed, according to the reports.
Wayne County, the defending 5A state champion now playing in Class 4A, received 10 of a possible 19 first-place votes. South Panola, the 5A runner-up, got the other nine.
In The Clarion-Ledger, Thurs., Sept. 11, Bill Spencer searched out the possibility of a rematch between the two on Dec. 12 after the state championship games the weekend before.
