Former City Cop Kills Wife, Self

"He was crazy. We all knew Todd was crazy."
Those were the words of Patty Mann after former Batesville Police Department patrol officer Todd Moore shot and killed his estranged wife Saturday then turned the gun on himself firing a fatal bullet into his head.
The incident happened only a few days after his resignation from the Batesville department became effective.
According to City Clerk Judy Flint Savage, Todd Moore quit the local force on June 30. He was hired in Oct., 2002.
"Todd had told me he was on a two-week suspension in Batesville… that he had started making a lot of mistakes.
"That’s why they suspended him … over his problems with Michelle, he told me," Mann said. "He said [BPD officials] told him ‘to get his act together.’" He told a friend he’d hit a fellow policeman in Batesville.
"I don’t know if all that’s true or not. You could never tell about Todd," Mann said. "He was always lying."
"He did get fired from the Greenwood Police Department … I do know that," she said.

Burglary Spree Hits Panola Co.
Public Should Keep Wary Eye

The Panola County Sheriff’s Department says answer your door if you are home.
That is how Investigator Craig Sheley said residents could prevent another burglary in the county.
"If someone knocks on the door, go answer and let them know someone is home," he said.
Sheley said 12 burglaries have occurred since June 30, and all have taken place during the daytime hours.
He believes as many as "four or five" males may be involved but declined to give The Panolian descriptions.

Sardis Fire
|

Members of the Sardis Volunteer Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire on Camille Street about 8 p.m. Friday. According to Fire Department Secretary David Smith, the home at 288 Camille St. had been burning for a while when firefighters from Sardis and Sardis Lake Fire Departments arrived. The home was a total loss. No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Smith said it is the department’s policy not to release names of owners.

Crenshaw Teen Stabbed to Death
Girl, 16, Faces Adult Murder Charge

A 16-year-old Crenshaw girl has been charged with murder in the death of another Crenshaw teenager.
Shyoulonda Williams has been charged for allegedly stabbing Joanathan Buck to death, Crenshaw Police Chief R.J. Loveberry said.
According to Loveberry, the murder took place between 8:30 and 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 3.
"We received a 911 call and responded to a home on Jones Street where officers found Joanathan Buck, 17, dead," he said.
Loveberry said he believes that Williams and Buck got into an argument during the night and Williams allegedly stabbed Buck between one and four times in the chest with a knife.

Thieves Take, Dump E-911 Signs

| There are signs of trouble in Panola County thanks to people stealing and dumping E-911 signs.
"Approximately 30 signs were found on Joudon Road.," Panola County Civil Defense Coordinator Son Hudson said. "I am convinced someone is riding around just taking them down."
Hudson said some roads are worse than others.
"There are some places in the county where we can put a sign up one day, and the next day it’s gone," he said.
Road Manager Lygunnah Bean said he doesn’t think people understand how important it is for the E-911 signs to be up.
