Statewide Dove Season Opens on Labor Day

JACKSON – This year, Labor Day will take on added meaning with Mississippi hunters. It marks the opening of the first proposed statewide dove season, according to the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks.

This first season will continue through Sept. 21.
The second proposed statewide dove season opens Oct. 11 and ends Nov. 2. The third season begins Dec. 27 and concludes Jan. 11.

Shooting hours for dove hunting are 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset.

Enforcement authorities remind dove hunters that mourning doves are protected by state and federal laws.

Shooters must have their shotguns plugged and incapable of holding more than three shells. Each hunter must have a valid state hunting license signed and on their person before going afield.

The legal daily limit of mourning doves is 15,  and the possession limit is 30. A possession limit is not permitted on the opening day of any season.
