North Delta Holds Annual Basketball Camp

BATESVILLE – North Delta held its annual basketball camp last week for boys and girls.

Coach Rick Johnston handed out awards for the top shooters in free throws, layups and hot shots.

Girls in first grade through third grade held camp in the morning and the boys in K-5 through fourth grade had the afternoon hours.

Camp participants learned ball handling, defense drills, passing which included chest, bounce and overhead and working on their shots.

Awards for the girls were presented as follows:

First Grade – Free Throws
First place: Callie Blake Masterson, 32/50
Second place: Julianna Morrow, 30/50
Third place: Mary Lynn Lewis, 27/50

Karate Members Win Top Trophies
    
Members of the Batesville Karate Club and Quitman Co. Martial Arts show off the trophies they won at the last two tournaments of the season. Members of the Batesville Karate Club and Quitman County Martial Arts display the trophies won at the “Power Surge” tournament held in Jackson and the “Heavy Hitter II” tournament held in Greenwood recently.

Winners from both clubs at the Heavy Hitters tournament are as follows: E.J. Bratcher, second-forms, third-sparring; T.J. Wilbron, first-forms, second- weapons, third-sparring; Chris Hill, first-weapons, second-each sparring and forms; Darrell Pruitt, first- forms, second-sparring; Ray Franklin, first-sparring, second-forms, third- weapons; Michael Cook, first-sparring, third each in forms and weapons; Victor Barts, second-sparring, third-forms; Vernella Wells, first-forms, second-sparring; Milton Williams, first in each forms and sparring.
