Green Wave Hosts Desoto and
Marvell in Scrimmage

BATESVILLE – The North Delta Green Wave ended spring training on a bang-up note.
The Green Wave hosted a jamboree with the Desoto Thunderbirds of Desoto, Ark., and the Marvell Eagles of Marvell, Ark. last Thursday.
The jamboree was conducted as a typical scrimmage with a set number of downs each teams performs.
Green Wave Head Coach Rick Johnston put all the players on the field to see what they could do.
Forrest Wilbanks, Harrison Nickle and Chris Pike traded off the quarterback position on different plays.
Taking the ball on the ground were fullback Cody Hallmark, tailback Patrick Ellis and tailback Bo Dunn. Center for the team is Scott Ross.

All-Sports Camp Sign-Up Continues

The All-American Sports Camp, sponsored by NFL players Deshea Townsend and Dwayne Rudd of Batesville, returns Saturday, May 31.
The camp will be on the South Panola football field from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There is no fee for children to attend the camp this year.
There will be cheerleading, basketball and football camps available for children ages 6 to 18 years of age.
Registration forms are available at the Boys and Girls Club, Dewberry Daycare and Myra Bean at The Panolian. The camp will be open for the first 300 children who turn in the forms.
The forms must be filled out and signed at the pickup place. The deadline to sign-up is Friday, May 23.
"The forms must be signed by a parent or guardian," said Kiffany Dugger, camp coordinator.
This is the third year Townsend and Rudd will return home to conduct the camp.

North Panola Hands Out Awards
at Annual Athletic Banquet

SARDIS – North Panola High School held its annual athletics banquet recently in the school’s cafeteria. Michael Dottorey, counselor, recruiter, and disability support officer at Northwest Community College, served as the event’s guest speaker.
The festivities were kicked off with the singing of the black national anthem, "Lift Every Voice and Sing," sung by Dexter McKinney.
Dottorey encouraged the athletes to always strive for excellence beyond athletics. "This is the foundation for your future," he said. He also told the student athletes "you have been given a unique opportunity by participating in athletics." Dottorey is a former coach.
This year’s awards included those for volleyball and track, two activities that have not been present on the athletic roster. Track has been a competitive sport in the past, but until recently was re-incorporated. This was the first year for volleyball.
"Last year we went to regionals our first year," said an elated coach Ernest Young, who is also head football coach. "My girls team did a great job. We competed very well and hopefully next year, we’ll go to state."
All of this was accomplished without the advantage of a track field at the school.

Youth Fishing Rodeo Slated

On Saturday, June 14, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sardis Lake Field Office will hold the 14th Annual Youth Fishing Rodeo at Cypress Point on Sardis’ Lower Lake. Made possible through the sponsorship of First Security Bank of Batesville and Sardis, as well as more than 150 businesses from the Sardis, Batesville, Senatobia and Oxford area, children will compete for prizes in several categories and age groups.
Registered participants will receive a t-shirt commemorating the event as well as the opportunity to take a trip through the prize tent and pick out a toy of their own choosing.
