North State Golf Champs:
North Delta Green Wave
Green Wave Plays for State Title

The North Delta golf team won the North State Tournament held in Grenada Monday, April 28. The win advanced the team to the AA State round Thursday, May 1, but the scores were not available at presstime.

At the North Delta Athletic Banquet Tuesday, April 29, golf head coach Mickey Aldridge updated what the golf team had done this year.
Tripp Sanders and Jeremy Aldridge are the two seniors on the team. Other team members are Scott Powers, Drew Baker, Will Crowley and Clint Egbert.

North Delta won the North Half Tournament with a score of 298. Other teams and scores include Leake 318, Manchester 333, Bayou 334, Heritage 335, Kirk 336, Canton Academy 339, Oak Hill 351, Benton Academy 387, Carroll 395 and West Memphis, Ark. 490.

Scoring for North Delta were Crowley and Baker, 73 each; Aldridge 74, Powers 78 and Egbert 80.

The team has won five of the six tournaments it has played in this year. The lone lost was in Clarksdale.

Team members Baker, Crowley and Aldridge have each medaled twice this year. The total strokes for those three are Aldridge, 514; Crowley, 515; and Baker, 517.

If North Delta wins the AA Tournament, they will advance to the State Overall Tournament Tuesday, May 6, in Meridian.
    


Football Teams Turn Out for Spring Practice

The local football teams have taken to the gridiron for spring football practice.

Monday, April 28, was the official day in which the teams could dress out in pads and helmets for some hard hitting action.

All the teams have spring scrimmage action lined up.

South Panola, under head coach Ricky Woods, will travel to Clinton, Thursday, May 15, for a jamboree with Clinton and Provine beginning at 4 p.m.

North Delta will scrimmage at home Thursday, May 8 and May 15. On May 8, the team may scrimmage with another team or among itself. May 15, Desoto, Marvell and maybe another team will participate in the jamboree, according to head coach Rick Johnston. More information will be given as it teams confirm.

Tuesday, May 13, North Panola, under head coach Ernest Young, will host a jamboree with Coahoma High School and Byhalia beginning at 5 p.m.

Brewer Signs

North State Bound    
Members of the North Panola track team will participate in the North State Tournament Saturday, May 3, in Pontotoc. Team members and coach include (l to r) head coach Ernest Young, Natonya Webb, Otisha Porter, Vonkeitrick Reed, Tomekia Greer and Nina Sims.  

Not pictured are Lisa Edwards, Amanda McIntyre, LaQuita Hardy and Alicia Jackson.

Jackson qualified in the 300 meter low hurdles. She placed second in the district competition. Also qualifying was the 4×200 relay team of Jackson, Edwards, McIntyre and Hardy.  The 4×400 team of Sims, McIntyre, Hardy and Webb also qualified. Reed placed second in the shot put and discus throw which advanced him to the North State competition.
    


Panola Rebels

The Panola Rebels lost the first game of the Collierville Invitational Tournament, but won the next four to take first place. The Rebels played the first game in the rain and lost 4-2, but beat the same team in the consolation round 9-2 during the weekend April 25 through 27.

Chosen as All-Tournament players were David Renfroe and Andrew Moore of the Panola Rebels. The team will play in the Red and Blue Classic in Collierville, Tenn., this weekend May 2 through 4.
