Cox was a sophomore who worked his way into playing every game of the season. He was the main kickoff man, backup punter and a wide receiver.

Sophomores do not usually have that much playing time on a powerhouse team like South Panola. Those roles are usually reserved for the junior and senior players.

Cox had a good head start on the way to having a great high school football career before his life and dreams were cut short.

The high school spring football season is set to begin Monday, April 28.

"He was an up and coming player," said assistant coach John Davis. "He was a great athlete and a good kid. He was going to be a player for us. He had good hands."

Cox’ play on the field earned him some recognition from the coaching staff. Two times he was named special teams player-of-the week during the playoff season.

Nov. 1 he received the honor playing against Starkville. Nov. 15 he received the honor in the playoffs against Forest Hill.

"We were looking forward to getting him out on the field," Davis said. "He is going to be missed."
