"The girls played the best game of their season," said head coach Michael Specks.

The Lady Green Wave downed Marshall in an important district game 53-35, Friday, Jan. 24. The Lady Wave could not keep that momentum going as they faced the No. 3 Strider Academy ladies Saturday night. Strider was the dominant team with a 71-37 victory.

Friday night, Marshall jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The lady Wave tied the score at four on back to back field goals by Emily Moore and Jennifer Locke with 5:25 left in the first quarter.

The score was tied again at 6-6 on a Laura Nabors field goal. Marshall went back up 10-6. The Lady Wave scored on a free throw and field goal by Alex Waldrup and a field goal by Locke to take an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Green Wave used that as a catalyst to keep the lead. They led as much as five points in the third quarter, and Marshall came within one point several times. At the half, the Lady Wave led 22-19.

Coming off the bench in the bench in the third quarter, Shea Golden provided a spark to both the Lady Green Wave offense and defense with steals, rebounds and points.

With 1:59 left in the third quarter, the Lady Green Wave had built up a 14-point lead, 36-22, by scoring eight unanswered points.

Six more unanswered points and the Lady Green Wave led 42-24 at the end of the third quarter.

Scoring for the Lady Green Wave were Locke, 11 points; Alex Rice, 10 points; Jeri Boren and Kate Robison, 8 points each; Alex Waldrup, 5 points; Golden, 3 points; Nabors, 2 points; Margaret Britt, 1 point.

South Panola quarterback Rickey Wright has been highly recruited following the football season.

Wright has even visited West Virginia University, but has verbally committed to Mississippi State University.

National Day of signing is Wednesday, Feb. 5 and nothing the athletes say before then is really official from the universities points-of-view.

Wright was listed as one of the top 40 recruits in Mississippi and also named to the All-State team by The Clarion-Ledger in December.

Other football players from South Panola has been on visits and received recruiting calls.

Offensive lineman Marvin Casey said Ole Miss, MSU and Northwest have expressed interest in him. He said he will probably start at Northwest.
