Lady Tigers Pressure Calhoun City for a Win
Shoni Fondren Scores Career High 30 Points for SP
South Panola’s Shoni Fondren defied gravity to score two for the Lady Tigers against the Calhoun City Lady Wildcats Tuesday, Jan. 7. The Lady Tigers won 60-51. Fondren scored a career high 30 points for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers are participating in the Water Valley tournament and will play Oxford tonight at 6 p.m.

It was a back and forth rematch effort between the South Panola Lady Tigers (5-5) and the Calhoun City Lady Wildcats, but the Lady Tigers held on for the 60-51 victory.

The Lady Tigers played for the first time since the Christmas holidays and Shoni Fondren put up a career high 30 points for the record books.

Fondren put the Lady Tigers on the boards first with a steal and a field goal. After that there were four ties in the first quarter and four lead changes.

After some missed Lady Tiger field goals, the Lady Wildcats were ahead 13-10 at the end of the first quarter.

It was a battle for domination in the second quarter. Fondren’s 3-pointer tied the game at 13. The game was tied again at 15-15, but the Lady Wildcats capitalized on some defensive rebounds and went ahead 19-15 with 5:59 left. A 3-pointer and a field goal by Fondren gave the Lady Tigers the lead 22-21 at 4:47 left in the first half.

The Lady Tigers went up 27-23 with 2:23 left in the first half on a Cheryl Cox field goal, but Calhoun City tie the game at 7 with 1:04 to go before the half. Neither team could score before the half and the score stood.
 

Lady Green Wave Downs Marshall

The North Delta Lady Green Wave got a much needed district win over Marshall Academy, Tuesday, Jan. 7. The Lady Green Wave downed the Lady Patriots 52-45.

Jennifer Locke scored 12 points to lead the Lady Green Wave. Jeri Boren had 10 points and eight rebounds and Kate Robison had seven points and eight rebounds. Leslie Wilson scored all of her six points in the fourth quarter.

With that win the Lady Green Wave are 10-6 overall and 2-3 district.

Scoring in the 47-30 loss to Lee, Ark., Friday, Jan. 3, were Alex Rice and Emily Moore, 6 points each.

In the 40-38 overtime win over Magnolia Heights Dec. 21, Robison scored 13 points; Locke, 9 points, 8 rebounds and Jeri Boren, 7 rebounds.

Despite Early Lead, Tigers Fall to Calhoun

Despite a first quarter 17-11 lead, the South Panola Tigers (3-8) fell to Calhoun City 68-62, Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Chris Jones was the big man in the post the Tigers rallied around. Jones opened the scoring with on a field goal with an assist by Cory Blackburn for two of his 21 points.

Also getting the nod to start was Will Poole who scored 15 points.

The Tigers maintained the lead through most of the second quarter but the Wildcats caught up a nd tied the score 24-24 with 1:40 left in the first half.

With back-to-back 3-pointers, the Wildcats held on to a 30-24 lead at halftime.

The Tigers remained close through the first half of the third quarter, but Calhoun City started sinking some threes and got a little breathing room on the scoreboard.
