Mary Mabry, 85, of Como died Friday, April 11, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral services are Saturday at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer M.B. Church in Como. Burial will be at Ebenezer M.B. Church Cemetery. C.O. Pate Funeral Home in Senatobia has charge.
Mabry was a housewife and a member of Ebenezer M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Mabry.
Survivors include two sisters, Etta Howard of Como and Beatrice Milam of Senatobia.

James C. Mabus, 61, of Charleston, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at his residence.

Mabus, born Jan. 26, 1942, was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his son, Clark Mabus.

Howard "Dick" Mangrum, 56, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Como, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Services will be Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist M.B. Church in Memphis, Tenn. with interment at Morris Chapel Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Fred Brown, Jr. will officiate services. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.
Mangrum, born Oct. 10, 1946, to Willie Golden and Robenna Abrams of Como, was a construction worker and a member of Independence Tyro Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mangrum of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Robenna Abrams of Como; three sons, Kenneth T. Mangrum of Nashville, Tenn., Christopher A. Thomas Travis Mangum, 60, of Batesville, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at his residence of heart failure.

Mangum, born Oct. 1, 1943, to the late Thomas Tindall Mangum and the late Mable Hodges Mangum, was the Water & Waste Superintendent for the Corps of Engineers. He was a Veteran of Vietnam Helicopter Crew Members Assoc., a veteran of Vietnam Conflicts, and a member of V.F.W.
Survivors include his wife Ophelia Landreth Mangum of Batesville; one son Thomas Edwin Mangum of Hernando; three daughters, Tracy Elaine Cook of Batesville, Janyne Hill of Maben, and Kimberly Irby of Enid; two brothers, Larry Mangum of Biloxi and Doug Mangum of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Benita Staten of Greenwood and Jackie Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio; and seven grandchildren.

Martin, Chester Charles
Chester Charles Martin, 73, of Batesville, died Jan. 23, 2003, at Baptist Hospital Desoto in Southaven.
Services were at Kernodle Funeral Chapel in Wynne, Ark. with interment at Walnut Grove Cemetery, also in Wynne. Rev. Gregg Tabor officiated services. Kernodle Funeral home had charge.
He was the son of the late Samuel Luther Martin and Flossie Mae Vaught Martin. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, David Martin and one sister, Catherine Chitwood.
Mr. Martin was a 1949 Graduate of Whitehaven High School and a retired postal clerk. He was an Air Force veteran and attended Blackjack Baptist Church in Batesville.
Survivors include, companion Ann Hathcock of Batesville; two sons, Donald Rory Martin of Front Royal, Va. and Charles Bradford Martin of Grenada; two daughters, Donna Martin LaVelle of Baltimore, Md. and Karen Martin Crawford of Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Arthur "Sam" Martin of Hemet, Calif.; and granddaughters Lindsey LaVelle and Charity Martin.

Bettie Ann Branch Matthews, 64, of Batesville, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Matthews was a retired accountant, a member of Black Jack Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher with the high school and young college students, a member of the choir, an active Lay Minister, an officer with the St. Andrews Presbytery and an avid geneologist.
Survivors include her husband Richard Wesley "R.W." Matthews of Batesville; two daughters, Rebekah Therrell Laws of Birmingham, Ala. and Sharon Therrell of San Francisco, Calif; two sons, Baine Therrell of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Peter Therrell of Decatur, Ga. and four grandchildren.

Mayo, born Feb. 2, 1920, to the late Leonard Mayo and the late Mildred Downs Mayo, was a traffic manager for American Greeting and a member of Harmontown Baptist Church. He was also a WWII Army Veteran and a former Mason.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Lewis Mayo of Como; one daughter, Rebecca Wade of Higbee, Mo.; two sons, Raymond Mayo of Olive Branch and Gary Mayo of Germantown, Tenn.; one brother, James B. Mayo of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Nora Elizabeth McAlister, 84, of Batesville, died Sunday, August 24, 2003, at her residence.

McAlister, born Jan. 29, 1919, to the late David Williams and the late Emily Leopold Williams, was the owner of a bar and grill and a Baptist.
She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Newton McAlister.
Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Kesler of Richmond, Va., Frances Jones of Hopewell, Va., Tomme Edman of Batesville and Brenda Ross of Memphis; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

James Irby McClure, 64, died Monday, May 28, at his daughter’s residence in Batesville of heart failure.

McClure, born Jan. 6, 1939, to the late Jack and Evo Brewer McClure, was a retired plant manager of MMC, formerly Concrete Products and was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church.
McClure is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Gatlin McClure.

Cecil Clyde McGehee Jr., 45, of Batesville, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis of cancer.

Emmitt Floyd McGehee, 80, of Courtland, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at his home.

McGehee, born Sept. 22, 1922, to the late Charles McGehee and the late Hazel Hill McGehee, was a mechanic at Panola Mills. He was also a veteran of the Army Air Corps in WWII, and served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher at Camp Ground Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Marion "Mary" Pemberton McGehee of Courtland; three sons, Floyd McGehee, Jr. of Water Valley, Charles James McGehee of Switzerland, Fla., and Paul Terrell McGehee of Senatobia; one daughter, Ann McCain of Batesville; one brother, Clyde McGehee of Sardis; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Kendall Katherine "Kathy" Willis McKenzie, 44, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Memphis, Tenn. died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at her home.

She was the daughter of Annette Horn Morris of Oakland and Martin Willis of Ormond Beach, Fla.
She was a Florida certified paramedic, a software and electrical engineer and a Baptist.

McMullen, born to the late William Allen McMullen and the late Emma Sells, was an Army veteran of WWII and a retired fireman.

Leo Moore, 61, of Water Valley, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford of natural causes.

Elizabeth Geneva Morgan, 76, of Pope, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at Jackson Oaks Assisted Living in Jackson of heart failure.

Morgan, born July 31, 1927, to the late Walter and the late Minnie Mae Milner Doyle, was a homemaker and a member of Pope Baptist Church. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Morgan, born Aug. 7, 1942, to the late Ernest Morgan and the late Gladys Irvin Lee Morgan, was a veteran of the Army.

Morgan, born May 24, 1905, to the late Lonnie Brewer and the late Emma Hendrix Brewer, was a sales clerk at Dry Good Store and a member of Crowder Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by one brother Calvin Brewer and one sister Bernie Dees.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Morgan, a retired farmer, was born Oct. 21, 1921, to Little Auther Morgan and Safornia Lee Jones. He was a World War II veteran and a member of Second Concord M.B. Church in Batesville.

Mothershed, born June 23, 1928, to the late J.C. Johnson and the late Monty Goodwin Johnson and Jessie J. Mothershed Sr., was a retired employee of Henry T. Smith and Sons and a member of The Baptist Church.

Mary Virginia Moudy, 63, of Batesville, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at her residence of heart failure.

Moudy, born May 13, 1940, to the late Jessie and the late Bessie Waldrop Peyton, was a retired factory worker and a member of Blackjack Baptist Church.

Thelma Murphree, 96, of Sardis, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of a stroke.
Graveside services were Saturday at Rose Hill Cemetery. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Hal Johnson officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.
Murphree, born April 8, 1907, to the late John H. Bodry Crenshaw and the late Stella Lowry Bodry, was a member of the Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Richard Gallaway and D.H. Murphree.
Survivors include one son John Crenshaw of Sardis; one step-sister Mary Gail Wood of Kerrville, Texas; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Myers, Clara Finnie Watters
Clara Finnie Watters Myers, 88, of Troy, Ala., died Thursday, May 15, 2003.
Services were Sunday at Troy First Baptist Church. Burial was at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy, Ala. Dillard Funeral Home had charge.
Myers, born June 1, 1914, to the late Henry and Lola Finnie, was a nurse in Troy for over 26 years, among her nursing experience working in intensive care at Edge Memorial Hospital, she was also an office nurse for Dr. J.A. Brantley, she also spent many summers volunteering as camp nurse at Baptist summer camps in California, Colorado and Washington.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Robert J. Watters, second husband, Wilbur Myers and son, Bob Watters.
Survivors include one daughter Lola McGuffey and son-in-law Jerry McGuffey of Conyers, Ga.; one son Thomas Watters of Montgomery, Ala.; six grandchildren, Catherine Williamson Strickland of LaGrange, Ga., Craig P. Williamson of Portland, Ore., Christine Williamson Williams and David of Weston, Fla., Teresa H. Davis of Cincinatti, Ohio, Jeffery S. Davis and Rina of Cincinatti, Ohio, Jennifer and Mike Watters of Denver, Colo. and five great-grandchildren, Hope and Carley Strickland of LaGrange, Ga., and Baxley and Alexander Williamson of Weston, Fla.
