Lamb, Ollie Irene
Ollie Irene Lamb, 77, of Sardis, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center in Batesville of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 19. at 2 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was held at Forrest Memorial Park. Rev. Steve Cannon officiated services. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Lamb, born Nov. 24, 1925, to the late Ollie Dewey Jones and the late Mattie Arbitrius Holly Jones, was a homemaker and a member of the Batesville United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include five sons, James Lamb of Batesville, Tommy Lamb of Mountainburg, Ark., Daniel Lamb of Sarah, Miss., Frank Lamb of Marion, Iowa, and Tim Lamb of Holly Springs, Miss.; three daughters, Carloyn King of Waterford, Miss., Alice Russell of Denham Springs, La., and Maurine Keeton of Cleveland, Miss.; three sisters, Imogene Hester of Batesville, Helen Patton of Altheimer, Ark., and Wilma Bowles also of Batesville; one brother, Joseph Ollie Jones, of Marks; 24 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Franklin Lamb and one son, Jimmy Wayne Lamb.

Lambert, Gary Lee
Gary Lee Lambert, 43, of Sardis, died Thursday, May 29, 2003, at his residence.

Services were Thursday at Moore Funeral Home. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Tim Alsup officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Lambert, born August 8, 1959, to the late Con Roy Lambert and Willa Culbertson Lambert Chessir, was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his mother Willa C. Lambert Chessir and his stepfather William D. Chessir, both of Saratoga, Ark.; one daughter Dana Marie Lambert of Sardis and two brothers, Jim Lambert and Con Lambert, Jr., both of Hernando.
 


Landreth, Sadie Bernice
Sadie Bernice Landreth, 77, of Batesville, died Saturday, August 16, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Tuesday at Dickins Chapel. Burial was at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Al Mullin officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Landreth, born April 9, 1926, to the late Charles William Carson and the late Josie Lou Pullen Carson, was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband Cephus James Landreth.

Survivors include one son Paul Landreth of Lancaster, Calif.; one daughter Ophelia Mangum of Batesville; four grandchildren, Janyene Hill of Maben, James Landreth of Lancaster, Calif., Kim Irby of Enid and Paula Seelos of Lancaster, Calif. and eight great-grandchildren.


Lawson, Robert Earl
Robert Earl Lawson, 65, of Sardis died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.

Funeral services are today at 1 p.m. at New Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Harlem Harris Jr. will officiate. Burial will be at Rock Hill Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Lawson, born May 6, 1937, to the late Alonzo Lawson and the late Maggie Gibson, was a retired truck driver and a member of Pleasant Green M.B. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include two sons, Terrell Lawson of Richmond, Calif., and Robert Earl Lawson Jr. of Sacramento, Calif.; one daughter Deborah Lawson Rice of Sacramento; one brother Willie B. Lawson of Richmond; three sisters, Evilena Harris, Hattie Harris, both of Sardis, and Minnie Holloway of Richmond; his nephew who cared for him, Willie Hightower of Sardis and three grandchildren.
 


Lawson, Susie
Susie Lawson, 92, of Batesville, died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be Saturday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m. at Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis, with interment at Rock Hill Cemetery. Rev. Christine Allen Glass will officiate services. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge.

Lawson, born Dec. 25, 1910, to the late Abe Holland and the late Rebecca Wallis, was a housewife and a member Rock Hill M.B. Church in Sardis.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Harris of Batesville; two sisters, Eva Carver and Delia Moffett both of Milwaukee, Wis.; and two grandchildren.
 


Leland, Norris Ray
Norris Ray Leland, 32, of Batesville died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at New Bethlehem M.B. Church. Rev. W. L. Nash will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge of arrangements.

Leland, son of Charles W. (C.W.) and Beulah Marie Leland of Batesville, was born June 30, 1970, in Batesville. He was a truck driver for Butler Trucking Company and a member of New Bethlehem M.B. Church.

Survivors in addition to his parents include, two daughters, Kadraya S. Johnson and Rayven L. Leland, both of Batesville; one son, Norris Ray Leland, II, of Calhoun City; five sisters, Patara McDaniel and Rhonda Leland, both of Batesville, Twanna Leland of Memphis, Debra Johnson of Oxford, and Arlean Leland of Washington, D.C.; four brothers, Larry Pearson of Oxford; Charles Wesley Leland of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; Curtis L. Leland of Coweta, Okla.; and Rudley Leland of Gary, Ind.; his grandmother, Mary Irene Roston of Batesville; and his fianc?e, Amanda Perry of Batesville.
 


Lester, Aishia Kensha
Aishia Kensha Lester, 3, of Sardis, died Monday, September 8, 2003, in a residential fire.

Services were Thursday at Cedar Grove M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was at Cedar Grove Church Cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include her mother Lameeka Lester of Sardis; two sisters, Denise Thomas Holmes and Ayana Rodgers Holmes, both of Sardis; two brothers, Shundarrius Lester and Quentarrius, both of Sardis and her grandparents, Gloria Lester of Sardis and Robert Dean Sr. of Memphis.


Lewellen, Robert H.
Robert H. Lewellen, 75, of Batesville, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Cemetery. Rev. Wes Sherman officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Lewellen, born Jan. 2, 1928, to the late Shufford M. and Willie Lee Epps Lewellen, was a retired mechanic for Memphis Hanger Company, a United States Army Veteran and a member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mary S. Lewellen; two daughters, Theresa Lewellen Mettetal of Batesville and Patricia A. Lewis of Covington, Tenn.; one son Billy D. Lewellen of Batesville; three sisters, Martha K. Barbee of Batesville, Laverne L. Lewellen of Charleston and Bonnie C. Johnson of Sardis; one brother Cyrus A. Lewellen of Batesville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


Lewis, Cornelia Garrott
Cornelia Garrott Lewis, 81, of Senatobia, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at her residence.

Services were Sunday at Senatobia Church of Christ. Burial was at Bethesda Cemetery. C.O. Pate Funeral Home had charge.

Lewis was a member of the Sledge United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Harry L. Lewis of Senatobia; two daughters, Ann Lewis Glover of Moulton, Ala. and Linda Lewis Hogan of Senatobia; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions can be made to Sledge United Methodist Church.


Lewis, James Russell "Bubba"
James Russell "Bubba" Lewis, 73, of Sardis, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

Services will be today at 11 a.m. at Sardis Presbyterian Church with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. David Smith and Rev. Ray Cross will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Lewis, born Nov. 7, 1929, to the late J.R. Lewis and the late Ester O’Bryant Lewis was a farmer and a construction worker. He was a Veteran of the Korea Conflict, and a member of Sardis Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Duke Lewis of Sardis; one son and daughter-in-law, Cooper and Susan Randolph Lewis of Batesville; one brother, Dr. T.T. Lewis of Charleston, one sister, Esther Lewis Ethridge of Oxford; and two grandchildren.

Lewis, Martin L.
Martin L. Lewis, 78, of Batesville, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of North Mississippi in Oxford of heart failure.

Services were Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Lewis, born Oct. 11, 1924, to the late Christopher and Dorothy Pearl Cahoon Lewis was a retired welder for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and a member of the Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Thomas Lewis.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Lewis Archer of Bartlett, Tenn. and Joanie Lewis Lee of Batesville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


Lewis, Richard Davis
Richard Davis Lewis, 54, of Batesville, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003, at High Pointe Health and Rehab in Memphis.

Services were Thursday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis. Dr. Doyce Gunter officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Lewis, born March 21, 1949, to the late Elmer M. Lewis and Margaret Richards Lundgren, was a Vietnam Veteran, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a salesman for Pyramid Life.

Survivors include his mother Margaret Lundgren of Sardis; his step-father N.A. Lundgren of Sardis and one daughter Jennifer Ann Lewis of Johnson City, Tenn.


Light, John Monroe "Dude"
John Monroe "Dude" Light, 75, of Charleston, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Baptist Memorial-North Mississippi in Oxford of heart failure.

Services were Thursday at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Sardis. Burial was at Peach Creek Cemetery near Sardis. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Light, born Sept. 16, 1927, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fisher Light, was a heavy equipment operator for Panola County and a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mary Light of Charleston; one daughter Brenda Pressgrove of Charleston; five sons, Larry Light of Charleston, John Light of Judsonia, Ark., Jerry Light of Morganfield, Ky., Tommy Light of Charleston and Joe Light of Union; one sister Nina Ruth Timmons of Charleston; one stepbrother J.M. Gilford of Walls; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.     


Lipe, Mary Elizabeth Wilson
Mary Elizabeth Wilson Lipe, 90, of Batesville, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville.

Services were Friday at Well Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville. Burial was at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Courtland. Rev. E. K. Gordon officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Lipe, born May 16, 1913, in Murphreesboro, Tenn, to the late Ambrose Thompson and the late Lillian Jones Wilson, was a housewife and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church of Pope.

Survivors include three daughters, Mary Virginia Lipe Langley of Southaven, Lillian Cathryn Lipe Wilkins of Oxford and Elizabeth Ann Lipe Magee of Pope; two sons, William Murray Lipe of Tupelo and Thomas D. Lipe of Florence, Ala.; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Murray Lipe. All memorials may be sent to Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.


Lipe, Ora Lee Respess
Ora Lee Respess Lipe, 70, of Pope, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in her home.

Services were Thursday, at Batesville Church of Christ. Robert Rawson and Michael Bates officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Lipe, born Feb. 25, 1933, to John and Irene Robertson Respess in Quitman County, was a member of Batesville Church of Christ and a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, G.W. Lipe.

Survivors include two daughters, Maria Inez Lipe Marsh of Florence and Barbara Sue Lipe Houch of Brandon; one son Dr. David Lee Lipe of Henderson; one sister Sue Respess Schaffer of Staton Island, N.Y.; one brother Robert M. "Bob" Respess of Mobile; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Livingston, Alice Virginia Jackson
Alice Virginia Jackson Livingston, 88, of Sardis, died Monday, August 18, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto in Southaven.
Services were Wednesday at Yellow Leaf Baptist Church in Oxford. Burial was at Yellow Leaf Cemetery. Dr. Ray Fullilove officiated. Waller Funeral Home had charge.

Livingston was a retired cashier in Food Services from the University of Memphis and a member of Poplar Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis.

Survivors include two sons, William Livingston Sr. of Sardis and Dennis Livingston of Hernando; two brothers, Robert G. Jackson and James A. Jackson, both of Oxford; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Yellow Leaf Church Building Fund or Yellow Leaf Cemetery Fund.


Lloyd, Alta
Alta Lloyd, 97, of Sardis, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Monday at Sardis Educational Building. Burial is today at 1 p.m. at Eureka Liberty Hill Baptist Cemetery. Rev. Clifton Ward officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.

Lloyd, born October 30, 1906, to the late Amos Lloyd and the late Emma Lloyd, was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.


Logan, Harry Lee
Harry Lee Logan, 58, of Courtland, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at his residence.

Services were Sunday at Macedonia M.B. Church in Batesville. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Zannie Leland officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge.

Logan, born Sept. 27, 1945, to the late Conelious Logan, was a retired truck driver for Darby Farms and a member of Macedonia M.B. Church.

Survivors include his wife Loretta Logan of Courtland; two daughters, Connie Middleton of Courtland and Rolanda Joy of Batesville; one sister Jeanette Bradford; and two grandchildren.


Logue, Lois Scott
Lois Scott Logue, 94, of Cordova, Tenn., died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at her residence of heart failure.

Services are today at Courtland Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Burial is at Antioch Cemetery in Courtland. Rev. William Johnson will officiate. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Logue, born Feb. 13, 1909, to the late Walter Scott and the late Sally Hurt Scott, was a member of Courtland Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women’s Club.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Logue.

Survivors include one son Donald Logue of Pope; one daughter Billie Logue of Cordova, Tenn.; one sister Emily Walters of Grenada; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.


Love, Lillie Randolph
Lillie Randolph Love, 83, of Marks, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Quitman County Hospital of heart failure.
 
Services are Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sledge. Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Booker Cemetery. Rev. Mark Conners will officiate. Delta Burial of Marks has charge.

Survivors include five daughters, Elizabeth Crawford and Lessle Jones, both of Lambert, Susan Randolph of Batesville, Frances Love of Marks and Dorothy Linzy of Sledge; three sons, Robert Balentine, Sr. and Eddie B. Love, both of Marks, and Frank Love, Jr. of Belen; one sister Bertha Bradshaw of Memphis, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.


Love, Willie Lynwood
Willie Lynwood Love, 60, of Batesville, died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at Alcorn Co. Rehab and Health Center in Corinth.

Services were Sunday at Shiloh M.B. Church in Courtland. Burial was at Shiloh M.B. Church Cemetery. Rev. Carl Brown officiated. Nicholson Funeral Home had charge.

Love was born Oct. 6, 1942, to the late Willie Martin Love and Luxie Mae Love.

Survivors include his mother Luxie Mae Parker of Courtland; three sons, Willie Tyrone Love of Courtland, Archie M. Love and Anthony F. Love, both of Batesville; one daughter Katrina L. Love of Courtland; five brothers, Jerry Love of Florissant, Mo., Jimmy Love of Chicago, Ill., James Parker and Bob Parker, both of Memphis, Tenn. and Jeffery Parker of Courtland; six sisters, Margaret Smith of Courtland, Rosa M. Grant, Cecil Mae Strong, Verlene Love, all of Memphis, Tenn., Varis Morris of Batesville and Mary Helen Harris of Centralia, Ill. and five grandchildren.
 


Lucas, Larry Nolan
Larry Nolan Lucas, 51, died Jan. 26, 2003, in Beverly Healthcare, Batesville of cancer.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church in Batesville followed by cremation.

Rev. Wes Sherman and Rev. Allen Parnell will conduct the services. Visitation will be Feb. 1 at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church. Dickens Funeral Home is in charge.

Lucas, born Oct. 17, 1951, in Sardis to the late Samuel L. Lucas and Violet Rutherford Lucas, was a construction worker and member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Anthony Lucas of Calif.; two daughters, Danielle Dyer of Arkansas and Ashley Lucas of California.; three brothers, Grady Lucas, Dewayne Lucas, and Tony Lucas, all of Batesville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Daniel Gregory Lucas, and by one sister Evelyn Doriott.

Luxton, Gerald
Gerald Luxton, 83, of Batesville, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 12, at 2:00 ,p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery. Rev. Robert Rawson officiated services. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Luxton, born April 11, 1919 in Linton, Ind. to the late George and Mary Imrie Luxton, was a retired self-employed insurance agent and a member of Batesville Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Luxton of Batesville; two sons, Ronald Luxton of Miami, Fla. and Daniel Luxton of Lansing, Mich.; two step-daughters, Deloris Weaver Craddock of Clarksdale, and Carloyn Ann Weaver Hazelip of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, Roy Luxton of Rodchester Hills, Mich.; two grandsons; six step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
