Jackson, Roberta
Roberta Jackson, 66, of Coffeeville, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of natural causes.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill North Church. Rev. Hentz will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Robinson and Son Funeral Directors has charge.

Jackson, born Nov. 5, 1937, was a housewife and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Jackson.

Survivors include her mother, Lillie Phillips; one daughter, Sarah Booker; and three sons, Eli Phillips, James Phillips, and Robert Phillips and 13 grandchildren.


Jenkins, Ira Leo
Ira Leo Jenkins, 81, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at Rush Hospital in Meridian of heart failure.

Graveside services were Thursday at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Rev. Kenneth Corley officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.

Jenkins, born Oct. 5, 1922, to the late Fred Alvin Jenkins and the late Ina Leona Tutor Jenkins, was a truck driver and a member of Mt. Olivet Church. He was in the Navy and a Veteran of WW II.

Survivors include three brothers, Harold Jenkins of Glenhaven, Fla., Mallon Jenkins of Aberdeen and F.A. Jenkins of Maryville, Tenn.; two sisters, Margie Smith and Barbara Baggett, both of Water Valley.

Jennings, Virginia Roseborough
Virginia Roseborough Jennings, 69, of Como, died Saturday, August 9, 2003, at her residence.

Services were Thursday at Mt. Level M.B. Church in Como. Burial was at the Mt. Level M.B. Church Cemetery. Rev. Bobby Walker officiated. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Jennings, born April 29, 1934, to the late Roger Roseborough and the late Lillie Bell Webb, was a food handler and a member of Mt. Level M.B. Church.

Survivors include six daughters, Lois Roseborough of Senatobia, Tiwatza Anderson, Gail Brunt, Elenora Nelson, Anianda Jennings, all of Sardis and Jennifer Roseborough of Como; one son Coye Roseborough of Sardis; one sister Lillion Parker of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one brother Howard Webb of Sardis; one step-brother Mack Taylor of Como; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.


Joe, Denny W.
Denny W. Joe, 67, of Southaven, formerly of Marks, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Baptist Hospital East in Memphis of cancer.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale at 1 p.m. Burial followed in Marks Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Joe, son of the late Jimmie and Ock Jan Joe, was born March 21, 1935 in Hong Kong. He was the retired owner of Jimmie’s Grocery in Marks and Chinese Chef in Southaven.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille W. Joe of Southaven; two sons, Raymond H. Joe and Dr. Stephen W. Joe, both of Olive Branch; one brother Chiu Shun Wu of Clarksdale; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Christ of the King Catholic Church in Southaven, Trinity Baptist Church of Southaven or to the Chinese First Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn.
 


Johnson, David Lindel
David Lindel Johnson, 75, of Batesville, died Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be announced at a later time. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Johnson, born Feb. 14, 1928, to the late David L. Johnson and the late Myrtle Hicks Johnson, was the manager for The State of Alabama Revenue Services, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and a veteran of WWII.

He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Johnson and his son David L. Johnson II of Batesville.

Survivors include one son Ken Johnson of Batesville.


Johnson, James R.  Jr.
James R. Johnson Jr., 88, of Senatobia, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services were Saturday at the Senatobia Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Bethesda Cemetery in Senatobia. Pate-Jones Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, a member of the Senatobia Presbyterian Church, was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army Medical Corps in the European Theater. His accomplishments include former mayor of Senatobia for 16 years, former alderman of Senatobia for 10 years, former chairman of the board of directors of Peoples Bank, long time member of the Senatobia Rotary Club – A Paul Harris Fellow, past President of Senatobia Chamber of Commerce, received the Municipal Hall of Fame Award, chairman of the Tate County Bi-Racial Committee, chairman of the Tate County Democratic Executive Committee, commissioner of the Strayhorn Creek Drainage District, Grand Marshall of the Senatobia Christmas parade and avid supporter of the Northwest Community College Fine Arts Program.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Johnson Gladney of Batesville and Judith Johnson Salter of Dawsonville, Ga.; one son James Richards Johnson III of Senatobia; and one brother Col. William P. Johnson of Raleigh, Tenn.; six grandchildren, one stepgrandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Moore Johnson.

Johnson, Shirley Ann "Shan" Seelig
Shirley Ann "Shan" Seelig Johnson, 76, formerly of Pope, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in her home in Fort Pierce, Fla. of heart failure.

Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Jimmy Bryant will officiate. Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Johnson, born October 17, 1926, to August and Ida M. Sunby Seeling, was a retired technician with RCA Space Laboratories in Preston, N.J.

Survivors include her husband Harvey Johnson of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one daughter Lynda K. Bell of Miami, Fla.; one son Joel W. Johnson of Hobe Sound, Fla.; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Treasure Coast P.O. Box 1748, Fort Pierce, Fla. 34954.
 


Johnson, Tommy Dale
Tommy Dale Johnson, 45, died Saturday, April 26, at his residence.

Funeral services were Monday at First Assembly of God Church. Burial was at Portageville Cemetery. Rev. Eugune Poole officiated. Delisle Funeral Home had charge.

Johnson, born August 28, 1957, to Nannie Mae Hollingsworth Johnson and Osker "Bud" Johnson, was employed at Associated Electric Power Plant in Marston, Mo.

Survivors include his wife Cheryl Johnson of Hayword, Mo.; one son James Thomas Johnson of Wardell, Mo.; one daughter Terri Sue Johnson of Hayward, Mo.; his mother Nannie Johnson of Hayward; his father Bud Johnson of Hayward, Mo.; his grandmother Jewell Johnson of Hayward, Mo.; one brother Tim Johnson of Hot Springs, Ark.; two sisters, Tammy Black and Toni Johnson, both of Portageville, Mo. and two grandchildren. 
 


Jones, Alexis Ann Michelle
Alexis Ann Michelle Jones, 6 months, of Sardis, died Saturday at her home in Sardis of heart failure.

Graveside services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Peters Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation is today from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial is at St. Peters Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Jones was born March 9, 2003, to Melvin Jones and Jennifer Michelle McCarver.

Survivors include her parents, Jennifer Michelle McCarver and Melvin Jones, both of Sardis; one brother Tyler Dewayne Jones of Sardis; two step-sisters Shannon Harris and Sharron Harris, both of Sardis; one step-brother Myron "Billy" Harris of Sardis; maternal grandparents, Lannie and Patricia McCarver, both of Batesville; paternal grandparents, Spencer and Agnes Jones, both of Sardis and her great-grandmother Jessie Card of Cleveland.


Jones, Dorothy Lee "Mama Dot"
Dorothy Lee Jones "Mama Dot", 69, of Como, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Roller Family Funeral Home. Burial is private. Roller Family Funeral Home has charge.

Jones, born to the late Lawrence Algie and the late Martha Magee Jones, was a retired hairdresser beautician, a member of Wells Station Baptist Church and former owner of Dot’s Beauty Salon.

Survivors include her husband Joe Finis Jones of Como; one son Bobby Joe Jones of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister Charlotte Mason of Mustang, Okla.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


Jones, Dorothy Oliver
Dorothy Oliver Jones, 41, of Sardis, died Monday, September 8, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were Sunday at Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church in Sardis. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. T.J. Isom officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Jones, born Oct. 14, 1961, to the late Nolan Oliver and Ida Oliver, was disabled and a member of Miles Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Survivors include his mother Ida Oliver of Sardis; two sisters, Betty McKinney and Mary Walls, both of Sardis; one son Antiono Oliver of Sardis; two brothers, James Oliver of Sardis and Fred Oliver of Muskegon, Mich. and two grandchildren.


Jones, Fred 
Fred Jones, 69, of Perris, Calif., died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Riverside Community Hospital of cancer.

Services were Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Riverside National Cemetery.

Hemet Valley Mortuary had charge.

Jones, son of the late Eugene and Lillian Coggins Jones, was born Aug. 14, 1933, in Marks. He had worked for the Riverside Unified School District for 23 years until he retired in 1990 as a Maintenance Supervisor. Jones served in the United States Air Force from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Riverside.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Doxanne Jones, and two grandsons, Michael Jones of Hemet, Calif. and David Boswell of Riverside, Calif.; his fianc?e, Dorothy Wilson of Riverside, Calif.; six sisters, Ruby Bolen, Margie Pearson, and Patricia Mettetal all of Batesville, Ellen Van Hoozer of Marks, Faye Bass of Southaven, and Mary Ruth Rice of Byhalia.


Jones, Ida Bell Douglas
Ida Bell Douglas Jones, 76, of Charleston, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003 at her home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at Newsom Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oakgrove Cemetery in Charleston. Newsom Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Jones, born July 8, 1926, was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Joe Hayden Jones of Tuiunga, Calif., Jack Eugene Jones and Roger LeDell Jones, both of Charleston; one sister, Abbie Smith of Charleston; one brother, Bill Havens of Yazoo City; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband James H. Jones, her son Douglas McClure Jones, and her sister Mary Helen Townsend.


Jones, John Edward
John Edward Jones, 53, of Petersburg, Va. died Nov. 12, 2003.

Services were held Thurs., Nov. 20, at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home and burial was at the Liberty Hill Cemetary in Como.

Survivors include his wife, Yvette George Jones of Petersburg, Va.; one daughter, Shana Lewis of Houston, Texas; one stepdaughter, Anya Hildreth of Richmond, Va.; two sons Donney Jones of Dallas, Texas and Travis Jones of Pasedena, Calif.; one stepson, Jonathan Hildreth of Charlotte, N.C.; two sisters and four brothers.


Jones, Mary
Mary Jones, 79, of Sardis died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Sardis Nursing Home.

Funeral services were Monday at the Church of Christ in Sardis. Burial is today at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Hobart, Ind. Bro. Samuel Curry officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Jones, born March 24, 1924, to the late Willie Askew and the late Loueser Edwards, was a housewife and a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Caroline Banks of Sardis and Cynthia Jones of Memphis; two sons, Perry Jones and Manuel Jones, both of Minneapolis, Minn; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.


Jones, Quinton D.
Quinton D. Jones, 15, of Sardis, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center. He died after collapsing during a physical education class at school.

Services were Wednesday at Cistern Hill M.B. Church. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Cedric Richardson officiated. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Lewis, born Dec. 12, 1987, to Tony L. Porter and Rita L. Jones was a school student and a member of Cistern Hill M.B. Church.

Survivors include his mother Rita L. Daniel of Sardis; his father Tony L. Porter of Sardis; one sister Myneikia L. Daniel of Sardis and two grandparents, Bennie M. Jones and Emma J. Porter, both of Sardis.


Jones, Ta’Nay Janey
Ta’Nay Janey Jones, 2 months, of Batesville, died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Graveside services were Wednesday at Springhill ASA Cemetery in Courtland. Rev. Louis Wilson officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Survivors include her parents Terry Jones of Sardis and Lakesha Williams of Batesville; three sisters Dairra Williams, Ceaira Williams, LaKayla Jones and her twin sister Ka’Nya Sharay Jones, all of Batesville; two maternal grandparents, Bertha Williams of Milwaukee, Wis. and Alfred Hughrey of Batesville; two paternal grandparents, Marlene Jones of Como and Joe Lester of Oxford; one maternal great-grandparent Addie Williams of Batesville and two paternal great-grandparents, Ruby Lester of Batesville and Hargis "Moochie" Lester of Batesville.


Jones, Will Ella
Will Ella Jones, 95, of Sardis, died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at Beverly Health Care and Rehab Center.

Services were Wednesday at Mt. Gillion M.B. Church in Sardis. Burial was at Mt. Gillion Cemetery in Sardis. Rev. Mark Conner officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Jones, born March 12, 1908, to the late Ike Leach and late Lula Leach, was a housewife and member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors include three sons, Lee Jones of Sardis, Alfred Jones of Los Angeles, Calif. and Albert Jones of Sacrameto, Calif.; seven sisters, Louise McNeese of Sledge, Jewel Tyler and Velma Conerly, both of Chicago, Ill., Rose Carson of Milwaukee, Wis., Ester Norwood and Billlie Smith, both of Apple Valley, Calif. and Lula Babers of Rock Island, Ill.; 45 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and 33 great, great-grandchildren.


Joslin, Reverend John Douglas
Reverend John Douglas Joslin, 87, of New Albany, died Tuesday, September 9, 2003, at his residence.

Services were Thursday at Glendale Baptist Church. Burial was at Glendale Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Harris Counce and Rev. Grady Goodman officiated. McPeters Funeral Directors had charge.

Joslin, born April 1, 1916, to the late J.T. and Nellie Joslin, pastored churches in North and Central Mississippi for fifty years.

Survivors include his wife Maybelle Joslin of New Albany; five sons, Wendell Joslin of New Albany, Joe Joslin of De Ridder, La., Jack Joslin of Nesbit, Frank Joslin of Pace, Fla. and Terry Joslin of New Albany; one daughter Beth Hajeh of New Albany and 10 grandchildren.

Judson, Fredine J. 
Fredine J. Judson, 77, of Water Valley, died Tuesday, February 24, 2003, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo of natural causes.

Services will be Saturday, at 1 p.m. at Everdale M.B. Church in Water Valley with interment at Oakridge Cemetery in Water Valley. Rev. Donerell Judson will officiate. Water Valley Funeral Home has charge.

Judson, born March 5, 1925, to the late Dora Oliver Fleming and the late L.C. Thomas, was a member of Everdale M.B. Church, and was a factory worker for Big Yank in Water Valley. She was the president of the NAACP for this district.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert L. Fleming of Water Valley, Leon Fleming of Louisville, Ky.; six sons, Willie Earl Judson of Rockford, Ill., James Judson, Courtney Judson, and Eric Judson all of Water Valley, Johnny Judson of Columbus and Donerell Judson of Gainesville, Va; five daughters, Margaret Roberts of Detroit, Mich., Mary L. Judson, Sandra Jones, Sheila Turner, and Tracy Turner all of Water Valley; 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister Lucille Fleming Carothers.
