Josie Terrell Caldwell, 99, of Sardis, died Friday, September 26, 2003, at her residence of cancer.
Services were Sunday at Union Baptist Church. Burial was at Union Baptist Cemetery. Rev. David Smith officiated. Moore Funeral Home had charge.
Caldwell, born Oct. 18, 1903, to the late William E. Terrell and the late Katie Mae Harris Terrell, was a school teacher for 40 years and a member of First Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband Edgar Caldwell.
Survivors include one daughter Jo Adams Cross of Sardis; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Thomas Pickard (Tom) Calvert, 77, of Griffin, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at the Spalding Regional Medical Center.
Services were Thursday at the Chapel of the Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Burial was at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Dr. Bruce Morgan officiated. Conner-Westbury Funeral Home had charge.
Calvert, born April 26, 1926, to the late Henry Jackson Calvert and the late Annie Reeves Calvert, was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps serving in WWII, a retired salesman with Atlas Roofing, an avid gardener specializing in fantastic tomatoes, a golf enthusiast, a great story teller, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin.
Survivors include his wife Peggy Jean Barber Calvert of Griffin; one son Phillip P. Calvert of Baltimore, Md.; daughters and sons-in-law, Karol and Robert Sullins of Griffin, and Nancy and Scott Massey of Bolder, Co.; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Janelle Calvert of Marietta,Ga.; daughters and sons-in-law, Janie and Billy Ray Smith of Crowder, Susan and Gary Elliot of Crowder and Debbie and Randy Smith of Olive Branch; grandchildren, Matt Sullins, Jackson Sullins, Lauren Sullins, Hank Massey, Davis Massey, Clint Calvert, Reagan Calvert, William Scott Smith, Whitney Smith, Tiffnie Hickman, Kent Smith, Ashley Elliot, Andy Beck Elliot, and Adam Elliot; sisters, Ann Griffith of Memphis, Geraldine Bridges of Lambert; brother, Jack Calvert of Crowder; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Camp, born May 4, 1989 to Arvis D. and Barbara Freeman Camp of Courtland, was a ninth-grade student at South Panola High School and a member of Courtland Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to her parents include two brothers, Mitchell Dawayne Camp and Nathan Mayron Camp, both of Courtland; grandparents, Odis and Betty Zenor of Courtland and Earl Camp of Sardis.

Ruth Cantrell, 78, of Gurnce, Ill., died Saturday, March 1, 2003.

Cantrell, born July 11, 1924, to Clara and Joe Robertson, was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis and was a retired domestic worker.

Charles Kotz Caruthers, 72, of Sardis, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, at his home of smoke inhalation due to a housefire.

Caruthers, born December 30, 1930, to the late Hulbert A. Caruthers and the late Ann Runken Caruthers Taylor was a Baptist and a former member of the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife Ruby Lee Childress Caruthers, of Sardis; one daughter, Suzan C. Hyde of Sardis; two sons, Scott Caruthers of Sardis, and Charles Caruthers, Jr. of Vicksburg; one sister, Betty Crystal of Madison, Miss; one brother, Ed Taylor of Ottowa, Kan.; and four grandchildren.

Thomas Jesse Chandler, 65, of Grenada, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford of heart failure.

Chitry, born Sept. 14, 1929, to the late Charles Chitry and the late Corinne Brier Chitry was a parts distributor for Chrysler Corp., assembly person in the missile program and boat captain for the port of New Orleans. He attended the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Marie McDaniel Warren Chitry of Batesville; one son, Donald Walter Chitry of Rialto, Calif.; two step-sons, Roger Warren and Ricky Warren both of Batesville; one daughter, Dianne Spicer of Alpine, Calif.; one step-daughter, Linda Goodnight of Batesville; 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Chrestman, born, Oct. 12, 1930, to the late Charles Graden Chrestman and the late Charlene Marie Mitchell Chrestman, was a retired farmer, a member of West Mark Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a Quitman County Supervisor for 32 years.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Tidwell Chrestman.
Survivors include his wife Mary Louise Nosser of Belen; one son Ronnie Chrestman of Seneca, S.C.; one step-son Rainey Scott of Brandon; one brother Tommy Chrestman of Cleveland; one step-brother Jerry Haney of Boyle and one granddaughter.

Christian, born May 17, 1949, was a graduate of the University of Mississippi, a former police chief in Batesville, worked as a private investigator the past several years, a veteran of the Vietnam War and served overseas in South Korea in the military police/criminal investigation division and he was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church.

Comfort, born July 30, 1929, was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church where she was on the Board of Trustees, a member of United Methodist Women, member of Sardis Woman’s Club and The Heflin House Museum, a graduate of Ole Miss, where she was affiliated with Chi Omega Sorority. She and her husband, Frank, moved to Sardis in 1962; she worked for around ten years as a Secretary for the North Panola High School and she retired from Mississippi Power and Light, where she had been employed for a number of years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Comfort and her brother N.S. "Soggy" Sweat.
Survivors include one sister Lillian Blanchard of Grand Prairie, Texas and one brother Thomas L. Sweat of Corinth.

Brandon Jay Cox, 17, of Batesville died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center emergency room from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Batesville Jr. High School auditorium. His body will lie in repose Saturday at Batesville Jr. High School auditorium from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will be at Spring Hill ASA Cemetery in Courtland. Rev. Ozine Thomas will officiate. Cox, born Sept. 30, 1985, to Theola Dishmon of Sardis and Edna Cox of Batesville, was a student at South Panola High School, a football player, on the track team and a member of Seven Day Adventist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother Thelarnis Dishmon of Batesville.

Lillie Mae Hall Cox, 83, formerly of Courtland, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Sinai Grace Hospital in Detroit, Mich.

Cox, born Sept. 9, 1920, to the late Edward Hall and the late Lillie Redd, was a housewife and a member of Shiloh M.B. Church where she served on the mother board, as an usher, Vacation Bible School director, home mission secretary, dinette committee chairman and program committee chairman. She was also a Sunday School Teacher. She was the Worthy Matron of the Order of Easter Star, Panola Chapter No. 2.
Survivors include one son; Claude Cox of Courtland; three daughters, Eleanor Hamilton and Mary Paulette Henderson, both of Detroit, Mich. and Eddie Faye Mosley of Flint, Mich.; two sisters, Gennie Hall and Aneva Humpery, both of New Burg, N.Y.; three brothers Charlie Hall, Ezekiel Hall and Joe Hall, all of New Burg, N.Y.; a stepmother Mamie Hall of New Burg, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Crafton, Ralph Laurance
Ralph Laurance Crafton, 86, of Sardis, died Tuesday, February 25, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Graceland Christian Church in Southaven. Rev. Rachel Woodall will officiate services. Waller Funeral Home has charge.
Crafton, a retired salesman with Lubrication Engineers in Fort Worth, Texas served as a First Lt. in the Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a member of Graceland Christian Church and also a member of the Lions Club and Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife Marguerite D. Crafton of Sardis; three sons, Ralph W. Crafton, of Southaven, Steve J. Crafton of Sardis, and Richard N. Crafton of Memphis; one sister, Victoria Dillingham of Kansas City, Mo; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Crawford, Jesse Lee
Jesse Lee Crawford, 48, of Water Valley, died Thursday, August 21, 2003, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services are Saturday at 2 p.m. at Everdale M.B. Church in Water Valley. Burial is at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley. Rev. Theodis Austin will officiate. Water Valley Funeral Home has charge.
Crawford, born to Elizabeth Hudson and Rev. Phil Brown, was a roofing contractor and a member of the Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Paterica Reed.
Survivors include his mother Elizabeth Hudson of Pensacola, Fla.; his father Rev. Phil Brown of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Casandra Crawford and Lachritia Crawford, both of Coffeeville and one son Terance Crawford of Coffeeville.
Crisler, Carol
Carol Crisler, 66, of Southaven, died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at Baptist DeSoto.
Services will be Friday, March 7, 2003, at Pope Baptist Church in Pope. Family Funeral Care Summer Avenue Chapel will have charge.
Crisler, the daughter of Elizabeth Brown, was retired from Haverty’s Furniture Company, was a member of Pope Baptist Church and was a writer who had a book published.
Survivors include one daughter, Diane Swain of Memphis, one son, Alan Crisler of Pope; five sisters, Billie Capwell of Pope, Kathryn Sullivant of Memphis, Judy Brown of Pope, Wanda Griffin of Memphis and Barbara Watts of Marion, Ark.; four brothers, William Thomas Brown of Memphis, Bobby Brown of Olive Branch, Richard Brown of Pope and James H. Brown of Pope; and one granddaughter.
Crowell, Margaret Mae
Margaret Mae Crowell, 74, of Oakland, died Thursday, September 18, 2003, at North Mississippi Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
Services were Sunday at Dickins Chapel. Burial was at Oakland Cemetery. Rev. Clay Baker officiated. Dickins Funeral Home had charge.
Crowell, born Dec. 4, 1928, to the late Jim Andrews and the late Tyice Wells Andrews, was a clerk, a homemaker and a member of Oakland United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband W.K. Crowell of Oakland; one daughter Linda Hopper of Oakland; two sisters, Pauline Wilburn and Elizabeth Ayers, both of Grenada; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
