| City Clean-Up, Zoning Issues Gain Attention |

BATESVILLE – Zoning and clean-up issues were part of the agenda Tuesday when the Mayor and Board of Aldermen met at City Hall in one of two regular monthly meetings.
It was agreed last week to set rezoning hearings for Joe W. Jones and Fred M. Nosef, Jr. and to set variance hearings for Condray Signs for Wal-Mart Supercenter, Vital Signs for Gateway Plaza Shopping Center and for Royalty Furniture Company.
Specific dates for the hearings will be determined and legal notices run, however it’s expected most, if not all, will be next month.
In its last meeting, the Planning Commission unanimously recommended that Jones’ application be approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
Jones wants his property on the west side of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to be rezoned from R-2, residential to M-1, mobile home district.

| Holiday Open House to be Held in B’lle |
|
| The Batesville Main Street Program, in conjunction with the Panola Partnership, will be organizing a Holiday Open House for Sunday, November 17, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Several activities to involve the community and to generate store traffic for the merchants are planned. Some of the activities include:

A window decorating contest for stores open that day; |

Horse drawn carriage rides departing from the square; and |
| – |
Live entertainment on the square. |

Sardis May Take Over Fern Hill’s Water Association |

The City of Sardis could soon find itself taking in the customers of the Fern Hill Water Association.
Sardis City Attorney Tommy Shuler told the Mayor and Board of Aldermen that the water association is in agreement, but still has some things it needs to iron out before a joint petition for the purchase can be filed by the city and the association.
"The sale of the association has to be approved by the Public Service Commission, but I think everything will go rather smoothly," Shuler said.
Shuler explained the Public Service Commission has a list of things that need to be completed before approving the sale of the water system to the city.
"I am working on a contract between the city and the association that will explain what needs to be done by the association before the transfer takes place," he said.

New Director on Board at Job Corps Center |

A Virginia native has been tapped to lead the Batesville Job Corps Center.
Originally from the mountain state, Roger Mullins has also worked in Job Corps Centers in Colorado, North Carolina and Utah. Mullins presently resides in DeSoto County with his wife of 39 years, Vickie. The couple have a son Mark, a Boston physician.
Mullins worked in an oversight capacity with the Batesville center and said he volunteered for the position because he saw the center needed help in some areas. |
