BATESVILLE – Batesville artist Keith Fondren will have his first art exhibit in this area at Southside Gallery in Oxford Friday, Oct. 11, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Fondren has lived in other cities in the past, and returned to Batesville three years ago, after about 15 years away.
He attended the Center for Creative Studies, College of Art and Design, in Michigan, and has been creating art most of his life.
Glass is one of his majors, he says, including slumping, blown, and cast glass.
Painting, stone carvings, and bronze sculptures are also a part of his many talents.

BATESVILLE – Financial consultant Demery Grubbs told city leaders the $7.25 million in bonds for phase two of the civic center had been sold and validated.
The City of Batesville is funding the project with a low interest loan from the Mississippi Development Bank.
"Is it possible to do the full project with the money we have?" asked Alderman James Yelton.
"Yes," responded Grubbs. "You don’t have to spend all the money at once. You will be spending it over a two year period of time."
Grubbs recommended that city officials invest more than half of the funds for at least six months.
"I think this should be a turn key job to the low bidder," said Alderman-at-Large Hudson Still, who made a motion that the bid be awarded to the low bidder.
Alderwoman Bobbie Jean Pounders agreed and seconded the motion.
The Batesville Board of Aldermen awarded the bid to the low bidder, PSC Corporation of Ridgeland, which made a base bid of $7.979 million.
The company indicated they could complete the project in 480 days. |

New Business Coming
To Locate on Hwy 6 |

BATESVILLE – A home improvement warehouse is coming to Batesville. Company executives just haven’t decided at which of two sites they will locate.
Patrick Cushman, of Columbia Engineering, requested variances on two sites located off Highway 6 East in Batesville Tuesday, October 1.
"We haven’t decided which property we will locate on," Cushman told the Batesville Board of Aldermen. "So we’ve asked for variances on both properties."
The first site is located on the north side of Highway 6 East across from Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
The second site is located on the south side of Highway 6 East next to Wal-Mart Supercenter.

| "Jailbirds" Looking for Someone to "Bail" Them Out |

| BATESVILLE – Many business and civic leaders throughout Batesville will be missing for one hour Thursday, October 17.
These notable "Most Wanted" citizens will be "serving time" at the Lock-up to benefit the Mid-South chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Participants agree to serve their one-hour sentence between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. The apprehended will be arrested and taken to MDA’s "mock jail" at The Hampton Inn.
Each "jailbird," if they have not already raised their $1,000 "bail," will be given a cell phone to call their friends, family and business associates to raise the rest of their bail.
