BATESVILLE – A variety of activities keeps the 101 students enrolled at the Batesville/Panola County Boys and Girls Club busy each week, says executive director Dennis Hoskins.
Nine computer stations, arts and crafts, woodwork, health and life skills, and sports activities are a few of the programs offered at the club.
"We want to give them a safe place to go so they feel safe," Hoskins told Batesville Exchange Club members, "so they feel like they belong.
"We try to build a community, build a foundation for them," he stressed. "We help them set goals and help them achieve them.
"We realize there is good in every child," he said. "We want to find it and build on it."

| Register to Vote by Friday, October 5 |

| Prospective voters are reminded that Friday, October 4, is the last regular business day to register to vote in the 2002 general election to be held Tues., Nov. 5.
Mississippians will cast ballots in contested races for one U.S. Senator post, all four U.S. House of Representatives posts, one Supreme Court Judge post, and two Court of Appeals Judges.
All Chancery, Circuit, and County Court Judges are up for election this year.
Also on the ballot is Senate Concurrent Resolution 543 which reads: "This proposed constitutional amendment increases the terms of office of circuit and chancery court judges from four to six years beginning January 1, 2003."
A proposed constitutional amendment must receive a majority of ‘yes’ votes to be added to the Mississippi Constitution.
Under Mississippi law, candidates for judicial office this year do not run in party primaries.
The Panola County Courthouse in Batesville and Sardis will be open Sat., Oct. 26 and Sat., Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to noon for those voting by absentee ballot.

Det. Graduates From FBI program |
|
 BATESVILLE – Panola County Detective Craig Sheley recently graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy Program at Quantico, Virginia.
Sheley underwent 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management and fitness training at the FBI Academy.
"It’s basically like a semester of college," Sheley explained. "You select six courses and you are in class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day."
The six courses Sheley selected include:

Managing death and sexually related investigations using investigative psychology; |
