| The Batesville Board of Aldermen took a close look at the new Harley-Davidson motorcycles recently purchased for the Batesville Police Department.

| The eight and under Batesville All-Star softball team blew every team they played away in the state tournament held July 5 to 7 in Hernando. The eight and under Batesville All-Star team seems to have breezed through the season as they posted a 10-1 record.
Their only trouble was from a Grenada team they lost to in Walls in late June.
The Batesville All-Stars whipped all-comers, but good, in the state tournament held in Hernando July 5 through 7. In the state tournament, Batesville was 4-0.

BATESVILLE – A Batesville man indicted by a Panola County Grand Jury on 10 felony charges will serve 25 years behind bars at the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).
Sanford Eugene Coleman, 38, of 1813 Belmont Road, Batesville, entered a plea of guilty Monday, June 24, to the charge of burglary of a dwelling and the charge of being a habitual offender.
According to information obtained from the Panola County Circuit Court’s file Thursday, July 11, a Panola County Grand Jury Indictment issued on March 6, 2001, charged Coleman with 10 separate counts.

Batesville hosted the third Hare Scramble Race of the Memphis Motorcycle Club, Sunday, June 9, at a location off John Branch Road.
Many local people participated, including 14 children and seven adults. The youth races were held in four different classes: Pee Wee, ages four to six; Kids, ages seven to nine; Juniors ages 10 to 12; and Teens, ages 13 to 19. |

$230,000 grant received for project |

BATESVILLE – A $230,000 grant has been awarded to the City of Batesville for renovations of the Patton Lane Community Building.
The $239,280 Community Self-Help Grant is received through the state’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.

| Games, activities, fun planned for event |

| BATESVILLE – The planning committee for the Back-to-School Carnival hosted by the Boys and Girls Club of Batesville and Panola County met Tuesday, July 9, to continue their efforts on the event.
The event is being held in recognition of National Kids Day, Sunday, August 4.
National Kids Day – celebrated on the first Sunday each August – is a day to celebrate and honor children through the gift of meaningful time.
The Back-to-School Carnival will be held from 2 PM to 6 PM on the grounds of Patton Lane Park in Batesville.
A variety of games and activities are being planned for area children and their families to do together.
