| Despite the rain, many children turned out Thursday, June 27, for the Children’s Fourth of July Parade. The event, sponsored by the Batesville Main Street Program, was held in downtown Batesville.
Flags were provided by members of the Batesville Exchange Club. Hot dogs and lemonade were served following the event.

| More Jobs Coming; Nissan Plant Expands |

BATESVILLE – What does the $500 million expansion of the Nissan facility in Canton, some 120 miles away, have to do with Panola County?
Lots, says Rep. Leonard Morris.
"This facility will attract many suppliers to the state," Morris explained. "We want to attract them to our county."
Morris said he, along with Rep. Warner McBride, Rep. Clayton Henderson and Sen. Nolan Mettetal, has informed the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) that Panola County is open for business.
"We’ve let the state know we’re ready," Morris said, "and we’ll work with the county and city to get this done.
"Panola Partnership has done a good job of keeping the MDA informed," he said. "Paul [Alexander] is ready and capable."
Alexander is the chief executive officer of Panola Partnership.
Morris said over 150 people from the area showed up for the Nissan job fair held in Batesville.

Insurance rates could go up
Business asks for hydrant |

BATESVILLE – Rising insurance rates caused one business owner to ask city leaders to install a water hydrant closer to his business.
"His insurance rates are going up $4,000 because the hydrant is not within 500 feet of his business," explained Alderwoman Bobbie Jean Pounders.
Rex Cole, owner of Panola Pallet, Co., Inc., approached Pounders for help with his situation.

Thomas Joins ND Coaching Staff |

BATESVILLE – With the addition of Lance Thomas, the North Delta School coaching staff is completed.
Thomas joins the staff as an assistant high school and junior high coach. On the high school team, he will work with the receivers on offense and the line on defense. With the junior high team, he will work with the offensive and defensive lines.

| SP season tickets go on sale July 15 |

| The South Panola High School athletic department has announced football season tickets will go on sale Monday, July 15.
People who had season tickets last year will be able to purchase those same seats through Friday, July 26.
For those who want to change seats or did not have season tickets, season tickets will be on sale to the public beginning Monday, July 29.
Tickets will be on sale at the high school office from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ticket prices are $45 for the five home games.

Boxing has often been referred to as a violent sport by some, and challenging by others. The sport has grown in popularity over the years, with fighters using sophisticated technology to condition and strengthen their bodies.
John R. Phillips, a Huntsville, Ala. native who now resides in Como, is an avid boxer who is passionate about the controversial sport.

$15.7 million facility to employ 350 people

| BATESVILLE – A $15.7 million meat processing facility held its ground breaking ceremony Thursday, June 27.
Mississippi Beef Processors, LLC, owned by Mississippi native Richard Hall, will build a 150,000-square feet facility in Oakland, located in Yalobusha County, only 18 miles south of Batesville. It is expected to employ 350 people, many of whom will come from the Panola County area.
