Coach Accused of Sexual Abuse
BATESVILLE – A former South Panola High School (SPHS) football coach is charged with 14 counts of alleged sexual abuse of underage female students at South Panola High School.

Eldridge D. "Bubba" Bonds, Jr., of 21 CR 209, Oxford, was arrested by the Panola County Sheriff’s Department Friday, June 21, after turning himself in to custody.

The 29-year-old is charged with 13 counts of sexual battery and one count of forcible rape.
 


Prosecute All Violators, Board Says

POPE – Pope board members authorized its law enforcement officials to remove any improperly placed mobile homes from the town limits.

Pope Mayor Cecil Pitcock made the announcement in a press release received Friday, June 21.

The decision to enforce the town’s mobile home ordinance was made during a special meeting of the Pope Board of Aldermen and Pitcock.
 


District Pinewood Derby Winners
Dane Broome, (center) son of Bart and Christy Broome of Batesville, was the winner of this year’s local and district Pinewood Derby competition. He won the local competition, which made him eligible to participate in the district competition held in Senatobia. He is shown with his first place trophy, along with the second and third place district winners.
 
 

Peace Corps volunteer
Wolfe travels to Mongolia

SARDIS – A former Sardis resident will serve as a Peace Corps volunteer in Mongolia.

Amanda Wolfe left recently to serve two years as an environmental specialist. She is the daughter of Rick and Kay Wolfe of Sardis and granddaughter of Mary Agnes Girner.

Wolfe, a wildlife biologist and geologist, is working with Mongolia’s Ministry of Environment and Nature.
 


Facility to Employ 350 People

BATESVILLE – A groundbreaking ceremony has been set for a facility that will employ 350 people from the area.

The Mississippi Development Authority made the announcement Friday, June 21.

Mississippi Beef Processors, Inc. will hold its groundbreaking Thursday, June 27, at 2:30 PM

The ceremony will take place at the construction site, located in Oakland.
