| At a ceremony held the last day of school at Batesville Elementary, Civitan Club member D. R. Roberts honored Yolinda Morgan, a first grade teacher at the school.
Morgan was presented the Civitan Award for her outstanding achievements in education.

| Emergency appeal made for blood donors |

| As the struggle to collect enough blood for Mississippi patients continues, Mississippi Blood Services (MBS) is offering a bonus to blood donors a chance to win a three-day, two-night family vacation.
The promotion runs from Monday, June 17, through Friday, June 28. All donors who give during this time will be eligible to win. One donor will win.
MBS has issued an emergency appeal for blood.

The Complete Computers-sponsored 14 & Under Batesville All-Stars finished the weekend of June 8 on top at the annual Summer Slam Tournament held in New Albany with a tournament record of 4-0.

New Road to Be Built

BATESVILLE – City officials awarded a contract to the low bidder to complete the dirt work for a road to be constructed at the Batesville Civic Center site.
City engineer Pete Sullivan recommended that the low bidder – W & W Contractors – be awarded the contract. W&W Contractors bid $138,000 on the project.
Batesville Mayor Bobby Baker said he wanted to clarify things on the contract, so that there would be no misunderstandings in the future.
"They [W&W Contractors] will move the dirt up to the tower," Baker said, "then they’ll have to stop until the tower is down and out of the way.
"Then they’ll have to come back and finish the job," he said. "And there will be no remobilization fees for us [City of Batesville] to pay."
"The contract says no remobilization charges," Sullivan told the Batesville Board of Aldermen during a special meeting Wednesday, June 13.
