BATESVILLE – If you like the sound of progressive country and Southern rock, make plans to attend the Community Country Music Show at Batesville’s multipurpose facility next weekend.
Southern Country, featuring Batesville performers Jason Adams, Jamie Wade Bright, Eric Adams and Darrel Adams, will be heading up the event Friday, May 31.
Performances will be held from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the multipurpose facility, formerly known as the livestock showbarn, located on Highway 6 East in Batesville.
Rewards come in many forms Named finalist
Rewards for effort come in many forms. On Wednesday, May 8, Cheryl Beene, childcare teacher at South Panola High School, found out that sometimes rewards come in the form of ice cream.
Beene was a regional finalist in the competition for Mississippi Teacher of the Year. She went on to be named the Alternate Teacher of the Year at the statewide competition announced May 15.
Blue Bell Creameries honored Beene by treating the entire student body and staff of her school to Blue Bell Ice Cream.
A Blue Bell truck pulled up outside South Panola High School Wednesday, May 8, at 11:55 a.m., and a Blue Bell treat was given to every student and staff member at the school.
Tempers flare, words fly

BATESVILLE – Batesville Police Chief Roger Vanlandingham was forced to calm homeowners of the College and Golf Street area when tempers flared during a meeting Tuesday, May 21, regarding the development of a seven-acre tract of land, formerly known as the House property.
Vanlandingham quickly snuffed the harsh words flying between homeowners and developer Larry Montgomery during the meeting of the Batesville Board of Aldermen, calling for order and requesting that residents calm down or be ejected from the meeting.
