BATESVILLE- The South Panola Risqu? Business drama group presents a Womanless Beauty Review, Saturday, March 2, at 7 PM.
The pageant of men portraying women will be held in the Batesville Jr. High School auditorium. Proceeds from the Beauty Review will go towards the group’s trip to Hawaii later on this year. |

| "Competing With Mass Merchandisers" will be the theme of a business workshop Thursday, February 28, hosted by the Panola Partnership. Larry Young, (left) Industry Liaison Manager with the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA), and Paul Alexander, CEO of Panola Partnership, discuss the final plans for the seminar in front of the Mississippi Highway Dept. of Transportation (MDOT) auditorium, where the event will be held.
There is no cost for Partnership members to attend, although a $10 fee will be charged to non-members. The seminar will begin at 5:30 PM and last approximately two hours. Featured speaker for the workshop will be John Brandon, Business Assistance Manager with the MDA. The MDOT auditorium is located on Highway 51 North. BATESVILLE – Questions were fired at Cable One general manager Pete Peden, asking why some cable services weren’t available to Batesville residents.
An inquiry concerning why Southeastern Conference (SEC) games weren’t available on Cable One was one of several questions asked by those in attendance during the Tuesday, February 19, meeting of the Batesville Board of Aldermen.

BATESVILLE – Earl’s Quick Stop on Panola Ave. reported the theft of a cutting torch set.
According to Batesville Police Major Tony Jones, the set was reported missing Thursday, February 14. It was valued at $1,700, Jones said. |

| Emergency appeal for donors |

BATESVILLE – An emergency appeal for blood donors was issued Monday, February 19, by Mississippi Blood Services. All blood types are needed immediately.
“We’re working with our hospitals to transfuse blood only in emergencies right now,” said Mississippi Blood Services manager Ian Stephens. “Elective surgeries will have to be rescheduled until the blood supply improves, in our opinion.”
According to Dani Edmonson, of Mississippi Blood Services, the situation has become life threatening.

SARDIS – Skipper Marine is assessing the demand for a marina at Sardis Lake, as is evidenced by the brochures many Panola County residents are receiving in the mail.
Skipper Marine of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, is in the process of conducting a market demand analysis, according to Sardis Mayor Richard Darby.

| Crop loans, LDPs now available
The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds farm producers that 2001 crop commodity loans and loan deficiency payments (LDPs) are available to eligible producers through the following:

March 31 for wheat and oats; and

May 31 for cotton, corn, grain sorghum, rice and soybeans.

A spaghetti supper will be sponsored by the Sardis Friends of the Library Saturday, February 23, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 PM.

Kids in the Kitchen seeks youth
Kids in the Kitchen will be held Tuesday, February 26, from 3:30 PM to 5 PM at the Extension Building on Hwy. 51 S. in Batesville.
The workshop, sponsored by the Panola County 4-H, will be “cake decorating,” led by Sally Hunt. It is open to all youth ages 8 to 18. Participants will need a cake decorating kit for the workshop. For more information, contact the Panola County Extension office at 563-6260, or 487-2085.
