BATESVILLE – Severe Weather Awareness Week kicks off Monday, February 18, according to Civil Defense / E911 coordinator, Son Hudson.
“We plan to have a statewide tornado drill Wednesday, February 20,” Hudson said. “I have written letters to school principals to encourage them to participate in the activity.”

Water bill problems discussed

BATESVILLE – Problems with a water bill brought one Batesville resident to seek help from city officials.
David Still requested that the Batesville Board of Aldermen “straighten out” his water bill.

Roads damaged by flooding

BATESVILLE – Panola County Road Manager David Chandler advised supervisors the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had completed its survey of Panola County roads that had been damaged by flooding.
“We have the opportunity to get these roads fixed and put back into shape with the help of FEMA funding,” Chandler said. “We will need to add six to eight more people in part-time positions.
Fashion Show set for Feb. 23
A 2002 Ladies Fashion Show will be sponsored by the Batesville Head Start Center Saturday, February 23, at 6 PM. All contestants will participate in dressy and casual wear. Entry fee is $5 for all contestants. Contact the Batesville Head Start for more information at 563-8166.
Loans available for farmers
The Panola County Farm Service Agency (FSA) offers loans to eligible farm producers to build grains bins or other similar grain storage structures. If approved, these loans could assist producers with a loan of up to 85 percent of the cost to build a grain bin or similar storage structure.
The maximum term of the loan cannot exceed seven years. Loans approved during the month of February, 2002, will accrue at the interest rate of 4.875 percent.
