Walker, Garland Wray
Garland Wray Walker, 71, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Courtland, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis of heart failure.

Graveside services were held Saturday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Charles Locke officiated the service. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Walker, son of the late Melbourne Drew and Ruth Roache Walker, was born February 23, 1931, in Courtland. He was a bookkeeper and a member of Courtland Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a daughter, the late Pam Walker, a brother, the late Melbourne Lee Walker, and three sisters, the late Shirley Walker Gottlieb, the late Mary Walker Norsworthy, and the late Ann Walker Reeves.

Survivors include his wife, Joann Johnson Walker of Gore Springs; a daughter, Donna Walker Smith of Horn Lake; four brothers, William C. "Bill" Walker of Columbus, James Wilbourne Walker of Plaquemine, Louisiana, and Merritt Hunt Walker of Courtland; and four grandchildren.

Walker, John H.
John Haney Walker, 70, of Harrisburg, Arkansas, formerly of Crowder, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Rev. Kenneth Doke officiated the service. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

Walker was born April 22, 1932, in Iuka. He was a retired employee of the Hytrol Conveyor Co. in Jonesboro and a door greeter at Wal-Mart in Trumann, Arkansas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and attended the First Assembly of God in Trumann. He was the widower of the late Daisy Morgan Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.

Survivors include a son, John W. Walker of Jonesboro; two daughters, Nancy Golden and Robin Creekmore, both of Harrisburg, Arkansas; three sisters, Joy Walker Smith of Harrisburg, Florine Walker and Ollie Walker Haney, both of Crowder; six brothers, Alvie Walker of Ukiah, California, Chester Walker and Levi Walker, both of Resaca, Georgia, G. W. Walker of Clarksdale, Clifford Walker of Malvern, Arkansas and Audie Ray Walker of Crowder; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
 


Ward, Annie Mae
Annie Mae Ward, 94, of Batesville, died Friday, August 2, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Batesville of heart failure.

Graveside services were held Sunday, August 4, at 3 p.m. at Itta Bena Cemetery. Rev. Charles Locke officiated the service. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ward, daughter of the late James Maybry and Abby Lillian Howell Locke, was born March 17, 1908, in Itta Bena. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church in Itta Bena. She was the widow of the late M. K. Ward.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ward Stevens of Batesville and Bettie Mae Ward Montgomery of Sunflower; a son, Jack K. Ward of Boyle; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 18 great, great-grandchildren.


Ward, John E.
John E. Ward, 64, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Como, died Tuesday, August 20, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 25, at 1 p.m. at Braham Chapel C.M.E. Church in Como. Burial was in the church cemetery. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ward was employed at a ceramics pottery factory. He was a member of Braham Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Hightower Ward of Como; three daughters, Bernadine W. Jackson of Cordova, Tennessee, Pearlie M. DePriest and Patricia Hathaway, both of Memphis; five sisters, Elizabeth Sanders, Martha Henderson, and Cordelia Ward, all of Sardis, Morsie Wright of Memphis, and Mattie Watson of Jackson; four brothers, James Ward and Isaac Ward, both of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Clyde Ward of Kansas City, Kansas, and Ricky Ward of Sardis; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Ware, Luther
Luther Milton Ware, 70, of Batesville, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 16, at 2 p.m. at Dickens Chapel. Rev. E.B. Gordon officiated the service. Burial followed in Batesville-Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ware, son of the late William and Minnie Mae Mahan Ware, was born August 3, 1932, in Panola County. He was a truck driver and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was also a member of the Victory Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Cosby of Courtland and Connie Bell of Pope; and one step-daughter, Vickie Hannah of Batesville; one stepson, William Hannah of Batesville; three brothers, Monty Ware, Harold Ware, both of Batesville; Shannon Ware of Pope; three sisters, Nora LaVelle Joiner of Sardis, Melver Bray of Southaven, Carolyn Anne Bryant of Marks; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two step grandchildren.

Ware, Floyd E.
Floyd E. Ware, 65, of Batesville, died Monday, May 27, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 29, at 2 p.m. at Goodway Pentecostal Church in Batesville. Rev. Mike Dutton officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ware, son of the late William A. and Minnie Mae Mehan Ware, was born February 9, 1937, in Pope. He was a construction worker for Nelson Materials in Greenville, and a member of Goodway Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Bryant Ware of Batesville; four sons, Jerry M. Ware and Ricky L. Ware, both of Crowder, Donald E. Ware of Courtland and Michael Wayne Ware of Batesville; three sisters, Nora Lavell Ware Joyner of Sardis, Melva Louise Ware Bray of Southaven, and Carol Ann Ware Bryant of Marks; four brothers, Milton Ware, Monty Ware and Harold Dean Ware, all of Batesville, and Shannon Ware of Enid; and six grandchildren.


Ware, Marvin
Marvin Ware, 73, of Nesbit, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – DeSoto in Southaven of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, at 2 p.m. at Twin Oaks Funeral Home in Southaven. Burial was in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens. Twin Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ware was a retired rice farmer. He was the widower of the late Margaret Maxine Musgrove Ware. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Smith of Nesbit; three sons, Jessie Ware of Nesbit, Billy Ware of Enid and Jeff Ware of Southaven; two sisters, Aileen Patton of Courtland and Marcia Daugherty of Batesville; a brother, Bobby Ware of Carthage, New York; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
 


Watson, Ruby Mae Hitchcock
Ruby Mae Hitchcock Watson, 75, of Marks, died Sunday, August 18, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 20, at 11 a.m. at Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tommy Darby officiated the service. Burial was in Yellow Leaf Cemetery in Oxford. Waller Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Watson was the widow of the late Leland Watson. She was a homemaker and a member of Willow Springs Assembly of God.

Survivors include three daughters, Vera Mae Martin of Enid, Linda Sue Melton of Batesville and Judy Lynn Lamb of Sarah; four sons, James Leland Watson, Billy Ray Watson, Cecil Watson and Bobby Gene Watson, all of Courtland; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.

Webb, Adella
Adella Webb, 99, of Sardis, died Sunday, September 29, 2002, at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia, of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 5, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sardis. Rev. Roy Allen will officiate the service. Burial will be in Cistern Hill Cemetery in Como. Moore Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Webb, daughter of the late Jim and Maria Pollard, was born July 10, 1903, in Panola County. She was a housewife and a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Lucious "Bill" Webb.

Survivors include six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.


Webster, Alvin
Alvin ‘Brick’ Webster, 62, of Brinkley, Ark., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at his home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m at First Baptist Church in Brinkley. Rev. Edward Smith officiated. Burial was in Haven of Rest Cemetery in Brinkley. Branscumb, Johnson and Gilchrest Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Webster, son of the late Lawrence, Sr. and Ruth Ray Webster, was born January 16, 1940, in Brinkley. After high school, he become a professional brick mason. He was a lifelong member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Brinkley, where he served on the usher board.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Webster of Batesville; two daughters, Vontrecia Webster of Batesville, Rosalyn Wright, of Sacramento, Cal.; two brothers, Carl E. Webster and Donald Webster, both of Brinkley; one sister, Sharon Horace of St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
 


Wiggins, Glenda Tackett
Glenda Tackett Wiggins, 58, of Batesville, died Friday, September 27, 2002, at her sister’s home in Enid of heart failure.

Graveside services were held Saturday, September 28, at noon at Forrest Hill South Cemetery on Holmes Road in Memphis, Tennessee. Rev. Rex Pittman officiated the service. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Wiggins, daughter of Jessie Marshall Tackett of Memphis and the late Burt T. Tackett, was born December 19, 1943, in Memphis. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Survivors, other than her mother, include a daughter, Sandy Wiggins Bolden of Parkville, Missouri; a son, Billy O. Wiggins, Jr. of Chattanooga; and two sisters, Melbaline Tackett Busby of Memphis and Laverne Tackett Baker of Enid.


Wilbourn, Eva Mae Sartain
Eva Mae Sartain Wilbourn, 87, of Sardis, died Wednesday, May 1, 2002, at Sardis Community Nursing Home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Water Valley. Rev. Jimmy Sartain officiated the service. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Browning Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Wilbourn was born October 27, 1914, in Water Valley. She was a retired self-employed beautician and a member of the First Baptist Church of Batesville. She was the widow of the late Jimmy Wilbourn.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Kay Wilbourn Smith of Batesville; two sisters, Doris "Sissie" Callicutt of Memphis, Tennessee, and Julia Sartain of Water Valley; a brother, Dale Sartain of Water Valley; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Williams-Hervey, Brenda Kaye
Brenda Williams-Hervey, 34, of Water Valley, died Thursday, October 24, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-N. Miss. in Oxford of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 28, at 1 p.m. at Springhill North M.B. Church. Rev. Sammy Townes officiated the services. Burial was in Springhill North M.B. Church Cemetery. Northridge/Woodhaven Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Williams-Hervey, daughter of Mattie B. Williams of Water Valley and the late Harold W. Mayes, was born June 11, 1968. She attended Water Valley High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Springhill North M.B. Church.

Survivors include her son, Brandon D. Hervey of Water Valley; five brothers, John Williams and Albert Williams, both of Oxford, Larry Williams and Michael Williams, both of Water Valley, and Bobby Williams of Alaska; three sisters, Patsy Tenner of Water Valley, Nancy Bynum of Oakland, and Linda Gayle Mayes of Memphis, Tenn.


Williams, Emmaline 
Emmaline Williams, 88, of Batesville, died Tuesday, February 5, 2002, at her home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 9, at 11 AM at West Camp M.B. Church. Rev. Melvin Jones officiated the service. Burial was in Batesville Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Williams, daughter of the late Walter and Ella Anthony Smith, was born March 29, 1913, in Panola County. She was a retired florist worker and a member of West Camp M.B. Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Walter Mae Conner of Batesville, Geneva Bell and Pauline Williams, both of Memphis, Tennessee; two sons, Lawyer Williams, Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri, and Jessie Williams of Batesville; 12
grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and four great, great-grandchildren.


Williams, Mack
Mack Williams, 69, of Batesville, died Friday, October 11, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19, at 2 p.m. at Springhill Asa Baptist Church in Courtland. Rev. Louis Wilson will officiate the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge of arrangements.

Williams, son of the late Jake and Cordie Sue Williams, was born February 12, 1933, in Batesville. He was a retired nurse assistant at South Panola Community Hospital and a member of Springhill Asa Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Addie V. Williams of Batesville; five sons, Robert Earl Williams, Mack Arthur Williams and Willie Roy Williams, all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Johnny Wayne Williams of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jessie Earl Williams of Batesville; a daughter, Bertha Williams of Milwaukee; two brothers, Hosie Williams of Milwaukee and John Henry Williams of Chicago, Illinois; 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.


Williams, Smitty
Smitty Williams, 56, of Batesville, died Tuesday, September 10, 2002, at The Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13, at 11 a.m. at the Batesville Presbyterian Church. Memphis Funeral Home – Poplar Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Williams was the owner of Stubbs Department Store and Williams Department Store.

Survivors include his wife, Jann F. Williams of Batesville; two daughters, Allyson Williams Morrow of Batesville, and Lisa Williams Brush of Nashville, Tennessee; and three grandchildren, Mary Jane Morrow, Julianna Stubbs Morrow and Sara Isabella Morrow, all of Batesville.

Williams, Tina
Tina Williams, 30, of Nesbit, formerly of Batesville, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital ? DeSoto in Southaven from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, at 1 p.m. at Rising Sun Baptist Church in Hernando.

Williams, daughter of Jessie Williams Lester of Nesbit, and James Jennings, of Memphis, Tennessee, was born March 16, 1972. She graduated from Southaven High School. She attended the University of Mississippi, where she obtained a bachelor of science degree in journalism and advertising. She pursued a career in journalism, working for the North Mississippi Herald as a copy editor, and The Panolian as a reporter. She was employed at Federal Express as a manager’s assistant, Baptist Memorial Hospital – East and was a free-lance writer for the Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors, other than her parents, include her stepfather, Broadie Lester of Nesbit; three sisters, Priscilla Lester of Nesbit, Gennell Polk and Tiffany Hall, both of Southaven; two nieces, and four nephews.


Williamson, Annie Clyde Boyd
Annie Clyde Boyd Williamson, 95, of Batesville, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 4, at 2 PM at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Vicki White officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Williamson, daughter of the late James Edward and Jessie Maude McKee Boyd, was born June 2, 1906, in Panola County. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Batesville. She was the widow of the late Hubert Williamson.

Survivors include a host of nieces and nephews. 
 


Wilson, Bobbie A.
Bobbie A. Wilson, 69, of Batesville, died Friday, October 4, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 7, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Batesville. Rev. Alan Kilgore officiated the service. Burial was at Weir Cemetery in Weir at 2:30 p.m. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Wilson, daughter of the late Leonard Lane and Mary Ann Cobb Dempsey, was born March 20, 1933, in Weir. She was a retired bookkeeper for Malone and Hyde and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Tom Wilson.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Dempsey of Water Valley; and two nieces, Deborah Ann Sanders of Enid, and Glenda K. Harrell of Charleston.


Wilson, Edith Atkinson
Edith Atkinson Wilson, 79, of Water Valley, died Saturday, September 14, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 17, at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. R. W. Moffatt will officiate the service. Burial will be in Campground Cemetery in Water Valley. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Wilson, daughter of the late James William and Hallie Cheeks Atkinson, was born April 3, 1923, in Rogersville, Alabama. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of the late James D. Wilson.

Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Nicholas of Water Valley, Melinda Crawford of Jacksonville, Florida, Sandra Joslin of Memphis, Tennessee, and Martha Cullison of Oxford; three sons, James Kenneth Wilson and Carey Gene Wilson, both of Oxford, and Donald Barry Wilson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Wilson, Merrill
Merrill Wilson, 68, of Batesville, died Friday, Nov. 15, at Regional Medical Center, Memphis, TN, of heart failure.

Services were Monday Nov. 18, at 2 p.m. at McIvor Baptist Church. Internment will be McIvor Cemetery with honors. Rev. Ray Legge and Rev. Allen Kilgore will officiate. Wells Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Wilson, son of Ed and Alice Hill Wilson, was born February 7, 1934, Batesville. He was a retired military and road manager of Panola County. Veteran of the Vietnam War serving as a Tail Gunner in the B-25 with the 553 Recon SQ station in Thailand.

Survivors include his wife, Doris McMinn Wilson of Batesville; three daughters, Sherry Sabrina Smith of Memphis, TN, Vickie L. Wilson and Maranda Wilson, both of Batesville; son, Wayne Wilson of Batesville; sister, Elise Jean Wilson Wooten of Batesville; 2 grandsons, Dustin Lewallen of Memphis, TN, and Noah Cole Wilson of Batesville.


Winters, Charles Wayne 
Charles Wayne Winters, 62, of Memphis, Tennessee, died Monday, January 28, 2002,at Oakville Nursing Center in Memphis of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 1, at 2 p.m. at Acory Hill Church in Batesville. Rev. Lloyd Conwell officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Winters, son of the late Homer Lee and Della Winters, was born October 1, 1939, in Marks. He was a retired tree surgeon. 

Survivors include four daughters, Teresa Winters Knight, Sandy Winters Johnson, Sheila Bryant and Debbie Winters, all of Batesville; two sons, Gary Wayne Winters of Water Valley and Tommy Earl Winters of Oxford; five sisters, Ruby Hall and Pauline Winters, both of Little Rock, Arkansas, Olean Willis and Alean Pettit, both of Pontotoc, and Nell Harmon of Gulfport; two brothers, J.C. Winters and Early Winters, both of Water Valley; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Womble, Emma Bell
Emma Bell Womble, 19 days old, of Southaven, died Thursday, July 18, 2002, at her home of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, at 1 p.m. at Greenbrook Baptist Church in Southaven.

Graveside services were held at 3:30 p.m. at Batesville Cemetery.

Brantley-Phillips Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Womble was the daughter of Ben and Stephanie Womble of Southaven.

Survivors, other than her parents, include grandparents, John and Brenda Womble of Nesbit, Mike and Gail Moore of Southaven; great-grandparents Thomas and Edna Burnett, and Robert Lee Womble, all of Batesville, Beverly Moore of Millington, Tennessee, and Nina Pinner of Memphis, Tennessee.


Womble, Kermit Daniel
Kermit Daniel Womble, 46, of Kennett, Missouri, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett of a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at McDaniel Funeral Service, Inc. in Kennett. Burial was in Oakridge Cemetery. McDaniel Funeral Service, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Womble, son of Joe E. and Charlene Tutor Womble of Marks, was born August 20, 1955, in Vicksburg. He married Cookie Tharp on February 16, 1996, in Henderson, Tennessee.

Survivors, other than his parents and his wife, include a son, Corey Womble of Cleveland; a daughter, Heather Womble of Cleveland; two step-sons, Steven Shannon and Heath Shannon, both of Kennett; a step-daughter, Jamie Shannon of Kennett; three brothers, Rickie Womble of Marks, Tom Womble of Batesville, and Tony Womble of Killeen, Texas; two grandchildren, and a step-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the transportation fund at the West Marks Baptist Church in Marks.
 


Wood, Michael Clay
Michael Clay Wood, 47, of Water Valley, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at his home of cancer.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. at National Funeral Chapel in Clarksdale. Rev. James Crutcher officiated the service. Burial was in Drew Cemetery. National Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Wood was born November 13, 1954, in Tutwiler. He was an emergency medical technician and a self-employed roofer. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include a daughter, Shellie Sutton of Memphis, Tennessee; two sons, Michael Clay Wood, Jr. and Christopher Scott Wood, both of Memphis; three sisters, Mary Crutcher of Water Valley, Faye Vance of Clarksdale and Penny Lewelling of Courtland; a brother, Jerry Wood of Water Valley; and four grandchildren.
 


Woodall, Rashad L.
Rashad L. Woodall, 3, of Taylor, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford from injuries received in an automobile accident.

Funeral services were held Sunday, August 25, at 3 p.m. at Tallahatchie Baptist Association in Oxford. Burial was in Yocona Cemetery in Taylor. Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Woodall, a native of Panola County, was the son of Charles L. Woodall of Taylor and Stephanie Shorter of Batesville.

Survivors, other than his parents, include a sister, LaKayle Woodall of Taylor; two brothers, Joshua Shorter and LaDarius Joiner, both of Batesville; grandparents, Ruthie Jean Woodall of Taylor, Anthony Miller of Jackson, Annette Joiner and Floyd Coleman, both of Oxford; great-grandparents, Alex and Lula Woodall of Taylor, Lura B. Coleman and J.B. Joiner, both of Oxford, and Minnie Richards of Batesville.


Woodard, Alice Aileen Mason
Alice Aileen Mason Woodard, 83, of Batesville, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Paul Middleton officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Woodard, daughter of the late Daniel and Alice Hill Mason, was born October 25, 1918, in Panola County. She was a homemaker and a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Woodard. She was the widow of the late Oliver J. Woodard.

Survivors include four daughters, Nettie Woodard Hudson, Martha Woodard Webb and Glynn Woodard Joslin, all of Batesville, and June Woodard McGehee of Sardis; four sons, Chester Woodard and Danny Woodard, both of Batesville, Leon Woodard of Yulee, Florida, and David Woodard of San Antonio, Texas; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.
 


Wright, Charles L.
Charles L. Wright, 72, of Batesville, died Thursday, September 19, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville of heart disease.

Funeral services were held Sunday, September 22, at 2 p.m. at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Wright, a native of Panola County, was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include a daughter, Lorine Connor of Batesville; two sons, Joe W. Ellis of Batesville and John R. Sanford of Washington, D.C.; three step-daughters, Martha Campbell and Louise Draper, both of Batesville, and Minnie Cauthens of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, Malissa Wright and Annie Chapman, both of Batesville; a brother, William Wright of Batesville; and many grandchildren.
