Garland Wray Walker, 71, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Courtland, died Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Methodist Hospital North in Memphis of heart failure.
Graveside services were held Saturday, September 21, at 11 a.m. at Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Rev. Charles Locke officiated the service. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Walker, son of the late Melbourne Drew and Ruth Roache Walker, was born February 23, 1931, in Courtland. He was a bookkeeper and a member of Courtland Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a daughter, the late Pam Walker, a brother, the late Melbourne Lee Walker, and three sisters, the late Shirley Walker Gottlieb, the late Mary Walker Norsworthy, and the late Ann Walker Reeves.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Johnson Walker of Gore Springs; a daughter, Donna Walker Smith of Horn Lake; four brothers, William C. "Bill" Walker of Columbus, James Wilbourne Walker of Plaquemine, Louisiana, and Merritt Hunt Walker of Courtland; and four grandchildren.

John Haney Walker, 70, of Harrisburg, Arkansas, formerly of Crowder, died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 10, at 2 p.m. at Gregg Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Rev. Kenneth Doke officiated the service. Burial was in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.
Walker was born April 22, 1932, in Iuka. He was a retired employee of the Hytrol Conveyor Co. in Jonesboro and a door greeter at Wal-Mart in Trumann, Arkansas. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and attended the First Assembly of God in Trumann. He was the widower of the late Daisy Morgan Walker. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister.
Survivors include a son, John W. Walker of Jonesboro; two daughters, Nancy Golden and Robin Creekmore, both of Harrisburg, Arkansas; three sisters, Joy Walker Smith of Harrisburg, Florine Walker and Ollie Walker Haney, both of Crowder; six brothers, Alvie Walker of Ukiah, California, Chester Walker and Levi Walker, both of Resaca, Georgia, G. W. Walker of Clarksdale, Clifford Walker of Malvern, Arkansas and Audie Ray Walker of Crowder; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Annie Mae Ward, 94, of Batesville, died Friday, August 2, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Batesville of heart failure.

Ward, daughter of the late James Maybry and Abby Lillian Howell Locke, was born March 17, 1908, in Itta Bena. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church in Itta Bena. She was the widow of the late M. K. Ward.

Webster, son of the late Lawrence, Sr. and Ruth Ray Webster, was born January 16, 1940, in Brinkley. After high school, he become a professional brick mason. He was a lifelong member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Brinkley, where he served on the usher board.

Williams, daughter of Jessie Williams Lester of Nesbit, and James Jennings, of Memphis, Tennessee, was born March 16, 1972. She graduated from Southaven High School. She attended the University of Mississippi, where she obtained a bachelor of science degree in journalism and advertising. She pursued a career in journalism, working for the North Mississippi Herald as a copy editor, and The Panolian as a reporter. She was employed at Federal Express as a manager’s assistant, Baptist Memorial Hospital – East and was a free-lance writer for the Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors, other than her parents, include her stepfather, Broadie Lester of Nesbit; three sisters, Priscilla Lester of Nesbit, Gennell Polk and Tiffany Hall, both of Southaven; two nieces, and four nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Paul Middleton officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Woodard, daughter of the late Daniel and Alice Hill Mason, was born October 25, 1918, in Panola County. She was a homemaker and a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Tony Woodard. She was the widow of the late Oliver J. Woodard.
Survivors include four daughters, Nettie Woodard Hudson, Martha Woodard Webb and Glynn Woodard Joslin, all of Batesville, and June Woodard McGehee of Sardis; four sons, Chester Woodard and Danny Woodard, both of Batesville, Leon Woodard of Yulee, Florida, and David Woodard of San Antonio, Texas; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild.

Charles L. Wright, 72, of Batesville, died Thursday, September 19, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville of heart disease.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 22, at 2 p.m. at Eureka A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hodges Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Wright, a native of Panola County, was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorine Connor of Batesville; two sons, Joe W. Ellis of Batesville and John R. Sanford of Washington, D.C.; three step-daughters, Martha Campbell and Louise Draper, both of Batesville, and Minnie Cauthens of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, Malissa Wright and Annie Chapman, both of Batesville; a brother, William Wright of Batesville; and many grandchildren.
