Valentine, Elaine
Elaine Valentine, 45, of Batesville, died Saturday, August 24, 2002, at her home of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 28, at 2 p.m. at West Camp M.B. Church. Rev. Melvin Jones officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.
Valentine, daughter of the late Robert Lee Birch and Annie Mae Valentine, was born December 30, 1956, in Batesville. She was an engineer technician for Parker Hannifin and a member of West Camp M.B. Church.
Survivors include two daughters, LaToya Valentine of Batesville and Yaminah Smallie of Courtland; two sisters, Betty Ree Sanford of Pope and Sophia Birch of Coffeeville; and four grandchildren.
Van Hoozer, John Ellis
John Ellis Van Hoozer, 55, of Sledge, died Tuesday, July 16, 2002, in Dallas, Texas, of a heart attack.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at Kimbro Funeral Home in Marks. Rev. John Parker officiated the service. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Van Hoozer, son of Barbara E. Jones Van Hoozer of Marks and the late Ernest Van Hoozer, was born November 28, 1946, in Grenada. He was a truck driver for Tennessee Trucking and a member of Tutwiler Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the American Legion.
Survivors, other than his mother, include his wife, Becky O’Neal Van Hoozer of Sledge; a son, John Ellis Van Hoozer, Jr. of Sledge; two daughters, Beth Van Hoozer of Merced, California, and Amy Rebecca Van Hoozer Butler of Faulkner; two brothers, Eston Van Hoozer of Oakland, Tennessee, and George Van Hoozer of Boise, Idaho; three sisters, Judy McCollum of Shannon, Eva Grace Parham of Magee and Shannon Francis of Clarksdale; and three grandchildren.
Vaughan, Linda McGee
Linda McGee Vaughan, 63, of Batesville, died Thursday, September 12, 2002, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 14, at 11 a.m. at North Batesville Baptist Church. Rev. Charles Keel officiated the service. Burial was in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Vaughan, daughter of the late Stanley and Virginia Williford McGee, was born May 17, 1939, in Pope. She was a housewife and a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Vaughan of Batesville; two sons, Ernie Vaughan and Monty Vaughan, both of Batesville; a daughter, Joy Vaughan Ragon of Batesville; two brothers, Billy McGee of Pope and Sammy McGee of Coldwater; a sister, Sissy Hunter of Clarksdale; and six grandchildren.

Vickery, Katherina Scheuerer
Katherina "Katie" Scheuerer Vickery, 87, of Ridgeland, formerly of Sardis, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 23, at 10:30 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Longtown Cemetery in Crenshaw. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Vickery came to Panola County at the end of World War II as a young German war bride. She was the widow of the late Everett Shannon Vickery. They were managers of the Como Stuckeys for a number of years, and also managed several other Stuckeys’ stores prior to retirement. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sardis. She was a former resident of Graceland Personal Health Care of Grenada and a longtime resident of Sardis.
Survivors include two sons, Everett Vickery of Franklin, Tennessee, and Jimmy Vickery of Clinton; and three grandchildren, Vicki Vickery of Ridgeland, John David Vickery of Dallas, Texas, and Teresa Vickery Prinzo of Columbia, Tennessee.
