Taliaferro, Ella Mae
Ella Mae Taliaferro, 75, of Water Valley, died Friday, September 6, 2002, at Yalobusha County Nursing Home of heart failure.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 13, at 1 p.m. at Bayson Chapel M.B. Church in Water Valley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Nicholson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Taliaferro, daughter of the late Dan and Mary Pearl Phillips, was born February 11, 1927, in Yalobusha County. She was a homemaker and a member of Bayson Chapel M.B. Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Mable Holmes, Sudie M. Polk and Zelda Buford, all of Water Valley, and Annie Whitley of Davenport, Iowa.
Taylor, Frances Aldrich
Frances Aldrich Taylor, 79, of Como, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford of a stroke.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 1, at 10:30 a.m. at Como United Methodist Church. Rev. Norman Holliday officiated the service. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery. Moore Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Taylor, daughter of the late Ransom E. and Frances Withers Aldrich, was born December 17, 1922, in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a housewife and a member of Como United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Como Study Club and the Como Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, W. S. Taylor, Jr. of Como; a daughter, Ginny Drash of Chattanooga, Tennessee; a son, Sledge Taylor, III of Como; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Tedford, James Ray Sr.
James Ray Tedford, Sr., 58, of Pope, died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at NHC Healthcare in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Truman Scarborough officiated the service. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Tedford, son of Necy Louise Turner Tedford of Cypress Inn, Tennessee, and the late James Claude Tedford, was born September 27, 1948, in Grenada County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart. He was disabled.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two daughters, Monica Tedford Carroll of Ozark, Alabama, and Stephanie Tedford Chambley of Winona; three sons, James Ray "Jamie" Tedford, Jr. of Batesville, Bradley Neal Tedford and Byron Thomas Tedford, both of Pope; two sisters, Sally Tedford Harper of Cypress Inn, and Meriam Tedford Stroupe of Pope; and seven grandchildren.
Thomas, Mary Lee
Mary Lee Thomas, 49, of Sardis, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at her home of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 6, at 1 p.m. at Morris Chapel M.B. Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Thomas, daughter of the late Isaac Thomas and Velma Williams, was born January 27, 1953, in Mississippi. She was a housekeeper and a member of Morris Chapel M.B. Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Joyce Sheare and Sherry Washington, both of Sardis, Leona Buchanan of Memphis, Tennessee; and four brothers, Ricky Thomas and Kenneth Thomas, both of Sardis, Ronnie Thomas of Sledge, and Isaac Thomas of Como.
Thompson, Cary Eugene
Cary Eugene Thompson, 50, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Marks, died Sunday, January 20, 2002, at V.A. Medical Center in Memphis of cancer.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, January 22, at 11 a.m. at Marks Cemetery. Rev. Laurie Jones officiated the service. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Thompson, son of Emily McKee Thompson of Marks and the late Claude Eugene Thompson, was born October 19, 1951, in Memphis. He was a theatre technician. He worked with stage management and design with Barter Theater of Abingdon, Virginia, before returning to Memphis, where he was associated with WKNO. He graduated from Memphis State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications and fine arts. He was a member of Marks Presbyterian Church. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors, other than his mother, include a sister, Elizabeth Thompson Belt of Memphis.
Memorials may be made to Marks Presbyterian Church, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Thornburg, William Robert
William Robert Thornburg, 80, of Batesville, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi in Oxford of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 11, at 3 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay, Alabama. Rev. Derrick Simmons officiated the service. Burial was in Ridge Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Homes, Inc. had charge of arrangements.
Thornburg was a native of Mississippi. He was a retired truck driver who logged 40 years of service with Robinson Truck Lines. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Earlene Thornburg of Batesville; a daughter, Martha Dye of Batesville; two sons, Robert Harold Thornburg and James Edward Thornburg, both of Batesville; three sisters, Beatrice Haney of Red Bay, Alabama, Lucille Brumley of Burnsville, and Lois Smith of Tishomingo; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Thornton, William Sharp ‘Bill’
William Sharp ‘Bill’ Thornton, 72, of Batesville, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at Batesville Presbyterian Church. Rev. Jon Burham officiated the services. Interment followed in Batesville Magnolia Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Thornton, son of the late Robert Andrew, Sr. and Ivah Sharp Thornton, was born Feb. 9, 1930, in Laurel. He was a professor at Northwest Community College. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was past president of the North Mississippi Realty Association, a member of the Rotary Club and he was an Eagle Scout.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Faulkner Thornton of Batesville; two sons, Robert Whitten Graves and Thomas Benjamin Graves, both of Batesville; two daughters, Janey Graves Ginn and Sara Faulkner Graves, both of Batesville; one sister, Mary Elizabeth Anderson of Michigan; and three grandchildren.

Tidwell, John Mercer
John Mercer "J. M." Tidwell, 66, of Vicksburg, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002, in Vicksburg of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 5, at 10 a.m. at Highland Baptist Church. Rev. George Hammitt and Rev. Brian Ivy officiated the service. Burial was in Green Acres Memorial Park.
Tidwell, son of the late Arthur Buck and Martha Lillian Tidwell, was a native of Lexington. He moved to Vicksburg in 1956 and began his career as an employee of Crawford Mims in a Jitney-Jungle. In 1977, Tidwell built and then owned and operated the Big Star Shopping Center, now Morgan’s Grocery, and in 1983 built the adjoining Country Kitchen. He also built the first of two Super Junior stores in Vicksburg in 1979 and the second in 1987. He had begun construction of a third Super Junior at the time of his death. He was instrumental in beginning Southside Baptist Christian School in 1994 and was a trustee and president of the school board. He attended Highland Baptist Church, but was a member and deacon on Southside Baptist Church for many years. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Lillie Robertson and Dorothy Marie Chrestman.
Survivors include his wife, Johnann Tidwell of Vicksburg; two daughters, Suzanne Allen and Nancy Middleton, both of Vicksburg; a son, Jay Tidwell of Vicksburg; a sister, Margaret Wigley of Batesville; and seven grandchildren.
Tindall, James Eugene
James Eugene Tindall, 68, of Batesville, died Saturday, October 5, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 7, at 2 p.m. at Dickins Chapel. Rev. Doug Pepper and Rev. Gerald Walker officiated the service. Burial was in Terza Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Tindall, son of the late Willie Houston and Odie Jenkins Tindall, was born November 1, 1933, in Quitman County. He was the distribution manager for Springs Industries and a member of Terza United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Katherine Tindall of Batesville; a daughter, Sherry D. Cook of Batesville; a son, James Howard Tindall of Batesville; three sisters, Ollie Mae Warnock of Florence, Lillian Katherine Robertson of Batesville and Elsie Louise Ivy of Clarksdale; and five grandchildren.

Michael Henderson "Mike" Toliver, 61, of Batesville, died Monday, October 7, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Toliver, son of the late Allen Henderson "Foots" and Grace Burks Toliver, was born July 6, 1941, in Lambert. He was a farmer, welder and a member of Crowder Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Toliver of Batesville; two sons, Ronnie Toliver of Crowder and David Toliver of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister, Betty Jo Brower of Batesville; two brothers, Dennis Toliver of Byhalia and Jerone Toliver of Batesville; and two grandchildren, Hunter Toliver of Batesville and Allie Toliver of St. Louis.

Leonard Truelock, 70, of Batesville, died Saturday, November 9, 2002, at his home of heart failure.

Truelock, son of the late Lee Roy and Joe Lee Goss Truelock, was born March 7, 1932, in Muleshoe, Texas. He was retired from cotton ginning and a member of the Sardis Lake Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Nelson Truelock of Sardis; three daughters, Betty Lou Truelock Hollis of Charleston, Mary Jo Truelock Liphand of Williford, Texas, and Robbie Ann Truelock Troutman of Dallas, Texas; five sons, Ricky Truelock of Odessa, Texas, Larry Truelock of Semino, Okla., Richard Truelock of Tupelo, Dale Truelock of Baltimore, Mary., and Lynn Truelock, Jr. of Tupelo; four step-daughters, Dianne Holley Baer of Batesville, Betty Holley Norwood of Walls, Penny Holley of Byhalia, and Faye Holley Traywick of Coldwater; one stepson, Butch Holley of Olive Branch; one brother, Quinton Truelock Carterville, Ga; three sisters, Loreta Gregory, Marie Goforth and Savannah Killough, all of Earth, Texas; 36 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marle Myrtle Marter Trussell, 83, of Batesville, died Sunday, Nov. 17 at her home of heart failure.

Trussell, daughter of W. T. and Lonnie McCain Marter, was born May 24, 1919, of Grenada. She was a retired registered nurse.
Survivors include her husband, James E. Trussell of Batesville; two sons, Jim Trussell of Mobile, AL, and Bill Trussell of Richardson, TX; brother, Grady Marter of Duck Hill; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Turner, Hurshel Thompson
Hurshel Thompson Turner, 82, of Enid, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Tallahatchie General Hospital of a heart attack.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Holiness Church in Enid.
Burial was in Bethel Cemetery. Newsom Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Turner was born June 20, 1920. He was a retired logger.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Winters Turner of Enid; four daughters, Janice Bratton of Tillatoba, Helen Presley and Dorothy Darby, both of Enid, and Sue Winter of Borger, Texas; two sons, Terry Turner and Dennis Turner, both of Enid; a brother, Rev. Walter Turner of Batesville; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
