Mamon, Billy Joe Harris
Billy Joe Harris Mamon, 42, of Sardis, died Saturday, September 28, 2002, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 3, at 2 p.m. at Macedonia M.B. Church. Rev. W. L. Nash officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. had charge of arrangements.

Mamon, son of the late J.D. Parker and Avelma Mamon, was born February 19, 1960, in Batesville, He was an employee of Federal Express and a member of Mt. Evia M.B. Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Mamon of Pope; a son, Joshua Mamon of Pope; four sisters, Stella Lee of Southaven, Edith Mamon and Joann Mamon, both of Sardis, and Rosie Smith of Detroit, Michigan; and two brothers, Jimmy Mamon of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Charles Mamon of Gary, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 15, at 11 AM at Dickins Chapel. Rev. Dr. John A. Jones and Rev. Dr. Lee Hudson will officiate the service. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

McCullar, daughter of the late Fennel Montgomery and Mary Trammel Grant, was born March 7, 1927, in Oxford. She was a seamstress for Panola Mills, a homemaker and a member of North Batesville Baptist Church. 

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Smith of Batesville; two sons, Boyd Goodnight, Jr., of Southaven and Billy Goodnight of Batesville; two sisters, Annie Mills of Sardis, and Christine Brummett of Oxford; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 16, at 11 AM at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. William Foster and Rev. Jess Chadwick officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

McCurdy, son of the late Lawrence and Louise McCullar McCurdy, was born July 24, 1929, in Panola County. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Hebron Baptist Church in Sardis.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Terry Brown officiated the service. Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery, east of Pope. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

McMinn, daughter of the late Thomas A. and Paralee Hope Teer, was born October 20, 1916, in Tallahatchie County. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk for many years. She was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Home Demonstration Club. In Alabama, she was a member of the Highland Baptist Church in Florence, a mentor for the Lauderdale County Extension Service, and served on many committees at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing Home. She was the widow of the late Ivra Lee McMinn. She was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Teer Carone.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Carolyn McMinn Brown of Bremen, Georgia, and Pamela Hope McMinn Lipe of Florence; a sister, Macelle Teer Williams of Santa Anna, Texas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Meredith, Sr., Walter "Lee"
Walter "Lee" Meredith, Sr., 78, of Hernando, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, at North Oak Medical Center of heart failure.

Services were Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at Hernando Funeral Home. Burial was at Hernando Memorial Park. Hernando Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Meredith was a member of Hernando Church of Christ, former member of Rotary, Optimist Club, former manager of Desoto County Co-op, former sheriff of Desoto County for two terms, former city Alderman, former police chief of Hernando, volunteer fireman, VFW Commander, Boy Scout Leader for thirty years, former teacher with Desoto County Schools, Desoto County Santa Claus for thirty years, graduate of Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy (only sheriff to graduate to that date), one of the first EMTs in Desoto County, formed the first Desoto County rescue squad and also formed the first Little League Baseball in Desoto County, and he was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine McCullar Meredith of Hernando; daughter, Quay Meredith Bible of Walls; four sons, Walter Lee Meredith, Jr., Robert Alan Meredith both of Southaven, Blake Meredith, David Kyle Meredith both of Hernando; five sisters, Prudie Moss of Batesville, Olive McCollum of Collierville, TN, Christal Haynes of Olive Branch, Mildred Hayek of Cordova, TN, and Evelyn Hall of Memphis, TN; two brothers, Doris Kyle Meredith of Frayser, and John Calvin Meredith of Kansas City, MO; 5 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Milam, Amos J.
Amos J. Milam, 87, of Batesville, died Wednesday, August 7, 2002, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 9, at 11 a.m. at Sardis Lake Baptist Church. Rev. Kevin Crofford and Rev. Roger Criner officiated the service. Burial was in Forrest Memorial Park. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Milam, son of the late John and Nellie Pruett Milam, was born September 17, 1914, in Gates, Tennessee. He was a retired mechanic for Celotex Corporation in Memphis and a member of Sardis Lake Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dona E. Milam of Batesville; three daughters, Margaret Milam Brandon of Senatobia, Dean Milam Warren of Batesville and Bonnie Milam Scheidhauer of Memphis; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Miller, Mary Eugenia
Mary Eugenia Miller, 93, of Batesville, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at Fairfield of Batesville of heart failure.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, August 4, at 2:30 p.m. at Longtown Cemetery. Rev. Rickey Haynes will officiate the service. Dickins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Miller, daughter of the late Chester Smarr and Annie Pittman Miller, was born September 5, 1908, in Crenshaw. She received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Columbia University. She was a retired school teacher and a resident of Crenshaw for more than 90 years. She was a member of Crenshaw United Methodist Church, where she served on the official board. She was also a director of the Bank of Crenshaw.

She leaves no immediate family.

Mixon, James Thomas Jr.
James "Jim" Thomas Mixon, Jr., 55, of Batesville, died Friday, August 23, 2002, at his home of cancer.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 29, at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Methodist Church. Rev. Truman Thompson officiated the service. Burial was in the Shiloh Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mixon, son of James Thomas Mixon, Sr. and Elise R. Mixon, both of Oxford, was born April 1, 1947, in Water Valley. He was a switchman for the Illinois Central Railroad.

Survivors, other than his parents, include three daughters, Kelly Lane of Southaven, Kimberly "Kim" Prestage of Nesbit, and Karen Carpenter of Vicksburg; three sisters, Joyce Ferguson of Independence, Ginger Hunter of Rochester, Minnesota, and Patti Wright of Walls; and seven grandchildren.

Moore, Carolyn Weeks Palmertree 
Carolyn Palmertree Moore, 68, of Batesville, died Thursday, Nov. 28, of heart failure.

Funeral services here held Saturday, Nov. 30, at First Baptist Church in Batesville. Interment was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Rev. Alan Kilgore and Rev. Aubrey Moore officiated the services. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Moore, daughter of the late Frank and Clarice Moorell Weeks, was born Sept. 29, 1934. She was a LPN and a retired nurse with Parkview Clinic. She was also a member of First Baptist Church, Batesville.

Survivors include her husband, Rev. Aubrey Moore of Batesville; one daughter, Natalie Palmertree Norwood of Batesville; one son, Jeff Palmertree of Batesville; four brothers, David Weeks, Bobby Weeks, both of Batesville, Jerry Weeks of Herculaneum, Mo., Larry Weeks of Colchester, Ver., seven sisters. Barbara Beard, Virginia Jenkins, both of Courtland, Sue Baker of Anderson, S.C., Frankie Dunn of Memphis, Tenn., Helen Wright of Indianola, Lera Dell Jacobs of Pontotoc and Bernis Prestage of Laporte, Texas; five grandchildren Whitney Norwood, Wesley Norwood, Justin Palmertree, Will Palmertree and Brittany Holliday, all of Batesville.

Moore, Destiny Sharvae
Destiny Sharvae Moore, 10, of Charleston, died Friday, August 2, 2002, at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, of cancer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, at 2 p.m. at Carris Chapel C.M.E. Church in Oakland. Min. Coreen Anderson will officiate the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary, Inc. has charge of arrangements.

Moore, daughter of Craig White of Alabama and Natasha Carmichael of Charleston, was born September 20, 1991, in Batesville. She was a student at Charleston Elementary School and a member of Carr’s Chapel C.M.E. Church.

Survivors, other than her parents, are two sisters, DeShava Carmichael of Charleston and DominiQua Carmichael of Russellville, Arkansas; two brothers, Ran Travious Carmichael of Charleston and Ranzy Carmichael, Jr. of Russellville; and grandparents, Frank and Della Kendrick, Ben and Joann White, and Ruby Moore, all of Oakland.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m. at Skyes Chapel Church in Lambert. Rev. Lloyd Johnson officiated the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. Delta Burial Corp. had charge of arrangements.

Moore was born January 2, 1955, in Quitman County. He graduated from Quitman County High School and worked in the Kroger warehouse in Memphis. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Moore, Pearlie Reed
Pearlie Reed Moore, 79, of Batesville, died Friday, July 5, 2002, at Beverly Healthcare in Batesville of heart failure.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Cave Springs Cemetery at 3 p.m. in Cave Springs, Alabama. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Moore, daughter of the late William and Lillie Pearl Moles Reed, was born December 17, 1922, in Moulton, Alabama. She was a homemaker. She was the widow of the late R. J. Moore and was preceded in death by a son, Roger Moore of Batesville.

Survivors include three sons, Don W. Moore, Jimmy R. Moore and David D. Moore, all of Batesville; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Morgan, William Monroe
William Monroe Morgan, 69, of Pope, died Friday, July 26, 2002, at his residence of heart failure.

Morgan, son of the late Charlie Clifton and Beulah Edna Harrison Morgan, was born February 10, 1933 in Tutwiler. He was a retired foreman for Boise-Cascade where he worked for over 25 years. He was a member of Pope Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Geneva Morgan of Pope; two daughters, Joyce Morgan Gremels of Jackson, Tenn. and Charlotte Morgan Papp of Flint, Mich.; one son, Wally Morgan of Batesville; one stepdaughter, Patricia Williams of Wynne, Ark.; two stepsons, Bobby Sweat of Brownsville, Tenn. and Howard Sweat of Jackson, Tenn.; two sisters, Shirley Morgan Stevens of Southaven and Connie Morgan Lung of West Memphis, Ark.; one brother, Charles Morgan of Burton, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Morris, James H. 
James H. Morris, 51, of Chicago, Illinois, formerly of Batesville, died Thursday, January 31, 2002, in Chicago of heart failure.

Survivors include his wife, Irishsteam Morris of Chicago; three daughters, Lillie Robinson, Monica Taylor and Veronica Martin, all of Chicago; a son, James H. Morris, Jr., of Chicago; three sisters, Shirley Faye Caldwell, Dorothy Eggleston and Martha Gayle Morris, all of Chicago; five brothers, Garner Morris of Victorville, California, Leonard Morris and Bobby Morris, both of Lubbock, Texas, Larry Morris and Ezra Morris, both of Chicago; and five grandchildren.

Morris, Kermit
Kermit Morris, 83, of Batesville, died Friday November 22, 2002, at Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford.

Services were Saturday, November 30, 2002, at Macedonia M.B. Church. Interment was at Macedonia Cemetery. Rev. Zannie Leland officiated services.

Morris, son of the late Josh Morris, Sr. and the late Irene McKenzie Morris, was born July 13, 1919, in Panola County. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and retired farmer. He was a member of Macedonia M.B. Church were he served as a deacon and also was president of the usher board.

Survivors include one daughter, Rosanett Foulks of Detroit, MI; three sisters, Minnie Mae Overalls of St. Louis, MO, Maudie R. Webb of Phoenix, AR, and Zenona Johnson of Gardy, IN; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 28, at 10 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Walter Ballard officiated the service. Burial was in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Bradford, Tennessee. Wells Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Mullan, daughter of the late Carl and Cordie Thedford Yates, was born October 18, 1931 in Cades, Tennessee. She was a retired hairdresser and a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

Musgrove, Andrea Dawn
Andrea Dawn Musgrove, 23, of Byhalia, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at Methodist Hospital – South in Memphis, Tennessee, of heart failure.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 7, at 3 p.m. at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope. Rev. Lee Smith officiated the service. Dickins Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Musgrove, daughter of Jonell Moody Musgrove of Byhalia and the late Rufus Lavel Musgrove, was born May 15, 1978, in Memphis. She was disabled and a member of Faith Fellowship Pentecostal Church in Byhalia.

Survivors, other than her mother, include two brothers, Jonathan Musgrove of Memphis and David Cook of Ohio; a grandmother, Marjorie White of Byhalia; and a grandfather, Bob Foster of Horn Lake.
