City court docket heavy with DUI cases

A Sardis man told Judge Bill McKenzie he was guilty of stealing diapers from Fred’s during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.

Jayson Dishmon, 42 Stokes, Sardis, was fined $1,120 after admitting to the shoplifting charge.

“Crime doesn’t pay,” said McKenzie.

DUI

Willie Lamar, 540-A Edwards, Sardis, had a case continued for a week for DUI-second (refusal), driving while license suspended and careless driving.

The judge told him the mandatory sentence was five days in jail.

Lamar asked the judge if he could serve weekends.

“Well, they tell me they (jail) aren’t running a hotel out there,” McKenzie answered.

His case will be heard on Wednesday.

James Holland, 4149 Hwy. 18 E, Blytheville, Ark., entered a guilty plea to DUI-first and careless driving. He was fined $2,057.

Christopher Chrestman, 377 Tinside, Batesville, had a case continued for DUI-refusal, open container, expired tag and careless driving.

Eric Rice, 11 CR 4065, Oxford, had a trial set for DUI and following too closely.

Lamorris Harvey, 1642 S Frence Cv, Cordova, had a case continued for DUI-refusal, speeding and no proof of insurance.

Sherman Kuykendall, 88 JD McKinney, Batesville, entered not guilty pleas to DUI and improper passing.

A trial was set for November 18.

Contempt of court

Shannon Becker, 351 CR, Oxford, had old fines of $577 that have been due since March 2009.

The judge told her to have her fines paid by November 2 or serve 90 days in jail.

Torrye Hughes, 206 Arizona, Batesville, had a contempt of court case continued.

He had old fines of $1,012 that have been due since October 2007.

He was previously assigned to work on the city’s work release program instead of paying the fines.

Hughes told the judge he completed   the amount of days owed.

McKenzie told him to come back to court in a week with records to compare to the court’s records to prove the completed days worked.

Calvin Clark, 310 Arizona, Batesville, had a case continued for DUI-refusal and careless driving.

Public drunk

Marvin Brownlee, 207 Vance St., Batesville, entered a guilty plea to public drunk. He was given time served while awaiting trial.

Simple assault

Jerry McBrayer Jr., 290 Tate-Panola, Como, had a simple assault case dismissed after the affiant failed to appear to prosecute.

Domestic violence

William Vinelli, 100 Latitia, Batesville, was fined $390 for domestic violence-simple assault.

Elizabeth Blaylock, 736 Enid Teasdale, Enid, was fined $390 for domestic violence-simple assault.

Alejandro Arellano, 216 Broadway, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault. A trial was set for November 18.

Other

Kimberly Brewer, 269 Walls Rd., Batesville, was fined $320 for disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

Gregory Chapman, 148-C Todd, Batesville, paid $320 prior to court for petit larceny.

Tickets

Pamela Deason, 130 Johnson St., Batesville, was fined $1,280 for no driver’s license, expired tag and no proof of insurance.

Kendra Mitchell, 1189 Harmon Rd., Batesville, was fined $560 for no proof of insurance and driving while license suspended.

Larry Butler Jr., 570 Bill Wallace, Sardis, was fined $193 for no proof of insurance.

Josephine Pope, 109 1/2 Martinez, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to failure to yeild to right away.

A trial was set for October 14.

I am yet concerned about the well being of our youth in Panola and Quitman county and I think someone needs to take a stand and contact local offical about the children being molested by these grown men who refuses to leave these babies along and the DHS is well aware of this problem and needs to make an effort you know they are coming there for foodstamps and other benefits put you refuses to press charges on these grown men trust me the parents are aware they live with the child and I will continue my effort to change this way of living even if contacting state gv't all the way to the president I will get answers and results.!!!!

Domestic Violence, almost always involves Alcohol. Plenty of DUI's here latley, Still think we should push for sunday beer sales?
