Two being held following homicide at Crowder store

By John Howell Sr.

Quitman County authorities are seeking additional information in the Saturday night shooting death of Evelyn Marie “Sissy” Shivers at Crowder One Stop on Highway 322.

Quitman County Sheriff Oliver Parker released a statement Monday that two people are currently being held without bond in the Quitman County Jail in connection with the shooting. The Quitman County Sheriff’s Department and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation.

Shivers was the wife of Batesville Police Detective Captain Paul Shivers. She was manager of the Kitchen Collection at Factory Stores at Batesville, a former circulation manager at The Panolian and also a former employee of Garan, Inc. in Lambert.

Arrangements are incomplete at Kimbro Funeral Home, which has charge of arrangements.

Anyone with additional information about the incident is urged to call the Quitman County Sheriff’s Department at 326-3131 or the MBI at 563-6400.

Sissy will be missed by all. She was a kind and caring person. My Family and I want to send are deepest thought and prayers with the Shivers Family in this time of mourning.

The Panolian definitely did right by NOT giving ALL details of this sad incident!! I, for one, wouldn't want ALL my personal business spread across the newspaper.
