Man who eluded police gets fine for resisting arrest

A Batesville man who fled authorities by jumping off a rooftop in Dogwood Hills then across Interstate 55 to escape police on June 12 appeared in front of Judge Bill McKenzie in Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.

Kendall L. Diggs, 4051 Eureka Rd., Batesville, was fined $926 for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

He also had old fines of $1,079 that have been due since November 2008.

He told the judge he ran from the police because he had marijuana in his pocket.

Diggs worked 45 days on the work program and had 13 days left before he ran from police.

Detective George Williford told the judge Diggs did not need to be released.

“Judge, if he’s released we’ll never catch him,” Williford said.

Diggs was sentenced to 60 days in jail to satisfy his old fines and he has new charges pending for an alleged robbery at the Civic Center while he was working there on the city’s work release program.

Grand Jury

Christopher Ellis, 113 Clinton, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for possession of controlled substance with intent to distribute and sale of controlled substance.

His bond was reduced from $25,000 to $5,000.

DUI

Tyrone Carver, 129 King, Grenada, had a DUI-refusal and failure to yield to right of way continued until August.

Porfirio Aquilar, 2867 Waldrup, Batesville, was fined $764 for DUI.

Contempt of court

Crystal Watson, 344 Greenhill, Sardis, was given until July 10 to have her old fines of $471 paid in full or serve six months in jail. Her old fines have been due since June 2008.

Trenita Winfield, 172 Hardy Rd., Courtland, entered the city’s work program for 25 days in lieu of paying $1,290 that have been due since November 2008.

She had a simple assault and stalking charge dismissed after the affiant Morris House Jr. failed to appear to prosecute.

Ratasha T. Poole, 113-C Cole Dr., Batesville, was given until July 10 to pay old fines of $851 that have been due since October 2008 or serve six months in jail.

James C. Mosley, 445 Sanders Rd., Sardis, had old fines of $1,821 that have been due since February 2007.

Mosley requested time to pay the remainder and that he could pay $500 after court.

The judge approved his request.

Joshua Gregory, 1568 Ales Rd, Batesville, had old fines of $700 that have been due since November 2003. The judge told him to have his fines paid in full by July 3 or serve six months in jail.

Simple assault

Brittany L. Sayles, 8448 Hwy. 35 South, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to simple assault and was fined $293.

Gertie D. Tucker, 8448 Hwy. 35 South, Batesville, was found guilty of simple assault and fined $293.

Daniella N. Sibley, 654 Cottage Trail, Batesville, had a simple assault case dismissed after the affiant Deanna Keen failed to appear to prosecute.

Possession of

stolen property

Sabrina J. McCammon, 6362 Hwy. 32 E., WaterValley, entered a not guilty plea to possession of stolen property.

McCammon told the judge the four pair of tennis shoes from Rack Room Shoes worth $210 were not in her possession and not in her car. She was just with Lacy Yeager who admitted she was guilty.

Her trial was set for August 5.

Lacy S. Yeager, 59 CR 377, Water Valley, entered a guilty plea to having stolen property (four pair of shoes worth $210.75) from Rack Room Shoes. She was fined $313.

False information

Susan A. Wadley, 8 CR 122, Oxford, had a bond set for $2,000 for false information and simple possession of marijuana.

She has more charges pending for prescription forgery according to Detective George Williford.

Burl Robinson III, 146 Harris Rd., Sardis, entered a guilty plea to false information and was fined $633.

Disorderly conduct

Shawntabis Fletcher, 517-A Harmon Rd., Batesville, entered a guiltiy plea to disorderly conduct. He was fined $293.

Willful trespassing

Micheauxn Chapman, 334-A Butler Rd., Batesville, was fined $384 for willful trespassing at Serta Mattress.

He told the judge he was getting mattresses out of the dumpster.

The judge showed the defendant a picture of the “no trespassing” sign at the business.

“Maybe the $383 fine will help you read better. That’s what those signs are for,” the judge said.

“You can buy a mattress for $383,” he added.

Domestic violence

Jermaine Tunson, No. 4 Courtney Village, Courtland, was fined $383 for domestic violence-simple assault.

Failure to appear

Clinton Sartin, 100 Latitia St., Batesville, failed to appear to answer a public drunk charge. Alright Bonding Company was notified.

Nathaniel F. Halter, 1022 Hwy. 6 East, Oxford, failed to appear to answer a possession of marijuana charge.

Tickets

Kimberly R. Garvin, 232 Parker Rd., Courtland, was fined $190 for no proof of insurance.

Kendrick Harris, No. 9 CR 370, Oxford, was fined $481 for no driver’s license and expired tag.

Antuan L. Gordon, 116 CR 104, Oxford, was fined $190 for no proof of insurance.

Efren P. Trujillo, 327 Hays St., Batesville, was fined $1,914 for no driver’s license, no seat belt and no proof of insurance.

Thought "Diggs'" buddies said he ran because he was innocent? Nothing like a little weed in the pocket to make a dude jump off of a roof and run like he stole something. Oh wait.....
