Al-Anon meets every Monday at 8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Batesville.

Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics  Anonymous meetings are held regularly at the Batesville Municipal Court Building on the Square from 8-9 p.m.


Friday, May 29
The public is invited to an open house at the Batesville Job Corps Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. For more information, call 563-4656, ext. 213.
Water Valley VFW Post 4100 will host bingo at 7 p.m.

Sat., May 30
A benefit concert “Music for a Cause” will be held at the Veranda at 7:30 p.m. to raise funds for medical costs for Jonah Smith, five-month-old son of Jessica Ginn  Smith and Jason Smith. Jonah has Hershsprungs’s Disease. The Big Strung Thumb will perform and a silent auction will be held. For more information call Emily Williams at 934-4840.
A benefit for Blake Goodwin who was injured in an automobile accident will be held at the Delta Rose at from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. A silent auction will be held for 4-6 p.m. and the band will play from 6 - 8 p.m. Spaghetti plates will be sold for $5. There will be a raffle for a  Wii and many more items. Tickets can be purchased at Bancorp South or Batesville Tire and Muffler. You do not have to be present to win.
A benefit event for Mike and Stephanie Davis will be held at Goolsby Mobile Homes, 23655 Hwy. 6 West in Batesville beginning at 6 p.m. Bell time is 7:30 p.m. Bad Boy Productions will present wrestling  featuring “Ghostrider,” “Outlaw,” “Southern Thunder” and many more. Stephanie has cancer and has had several surgeries. Admission is $10 and miscellaneous auction items will be sold. For more information call Shelia Willard at 473-4426.
Panola County Cancer Relief Organization will host “Horse’in Around Kids Carnival” to benefit cancer patients 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the SPHS football practice field.
Horses for children to ride, a petting zoo, moon bounce and many other activities will be available. For more information call Judy Russell at 563-8787.
 The Archonette Club of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority will sponsor a Blue and White Charity Ball 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club. No tennis shoes, jeans, or baseball caps allowed. Tickets may be purchased from any member of the Archonette Club or Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. All proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club.
Black Jack Community Center will have family karoake and gospel singing from 2 p.m. until.
Water Valley VFW Post 4100 will present entertainment by “Rolling Thunder.” The dance will be from 8 p.m. -midnight. Call 578-1544 for information.
The Patton Lane Class of 1970 will meet at 10 a.m. at Mt. Zion fellowship hall in Batesville.

Carpentry classes will be offered at Northeast Community College. To enroll you must be certified by the local WIN Job Center. For more information call 563-7318.

Robert Henry Tubbs United Daughters of Confederate Soldiers will be holding a monthly meeting at the Batesville Library at 5:30 p.m. For more information call Peggy Wright at 563-4218.

June 1 - 3
Charleston Tigers Youth Basketball Camp for grades 3 - 7 will be held at the Charleston High School. Boys will have camp 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and girls 12:20 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the CHS Varsity Basketball Team. For more information call Coach Frank Miller at 601-940-2808.

Sat., June 6
The Panola County Cattlemen’s Field Day will be held at the farm of Durwood and Melinda Gordon beginning at 4:00 p.m.
We will conclude with a meal, so please call the Extension Service at 563-6260 or 487-2085 by Thursday, June 4th, to reserve your meal. For more information contact the extension office.
The Country Store will be open again at 350 Hwy 51 South from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Aprons, dishes, crafts, homemade cookies and breads, gently-used purses and jewelry, etc. are on sale to benefit cardiac patients at Blair Batson Hospital for Children and local college scholarships sponsored by Batesville Woman’s Club.  Watch for signs and balloons.

Tues., June 9
The American Legion will meet at 6 p.m. at the Batesville National Guard Armory on Keating Road.  Call Charlie Overton at 563-3762 for information.
The Panola County Humane Society will meet at 5:15 at the Batesville Presbyterian Church.

June 13, 14
The SPHS Class of 1972 will hold their 37 year class reunion at Western Sizzlin from 2:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. A dance will be held immediately following at the Patton Lane Band Hall until midnight. Church services will be held Sunday at West Camp Church, 157 Hadorn Road in Batesville at 11 a.m.

Sat., June 27
Descendants of Julies Sanford will celebrate their 20th family reunion at Sardis Lake. Each family’s asked to bring a dessert. For more information call Margaret Sanford at 563-3187 or James Sanford at 654-1881.

June 1-30
Children in the North Panola School District will have the opportunity to enjoy meals throughout the Summer Food Service Program sponsored by the North Panola School Food Service. The program is designed to make sure that those children who have had the opportunity to get a good meal at school are able to do so during the summer months. Meals will be served free to children under 18. The program will be offered June 1-30 at Como Elementary, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.; Crenshaw Elementary, June 1- 30, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., and at Green Hill June 1-July 31, 11:30- 1 p.m. For more information call 487-2516.

Signup for the 2009 Direct and Counter-cyclical Payment (DCP) Program has been extended until August 14, 2009. FSA will not accept any late-filed applications.  Signup in the ACRE option is also available through August 14, 2009.

The date has been changed from July 11 to August 15.

April 2010
