Candidate’s withdrawal leaves four in Senate run

Dennis D. “Deedy” Dye of Sardis Monday announced his withdrawal from the Mississippi Senate District 10 race citing personal reasons.
Dye, of Sardis, had qualified a week earlier for the spot being vacated by incumbent Senator Nolan Mettetal who is now seeking the District 10 House seat on the Republican ballot.
Dye’s withdrawal leaves three vying for the District 10 Senate Democratic nomination including: Michael Cathey and Steve Hale, both of Senatobia, and Mona Pittman, who practices law in Batesville and lives in Oxford. Whoever receives that nomination will face Republican Vann Branch of Pope in the November General Election.
In a statement Monday Dye said, “I am not going anywhere and plan to be involved in this election in some helpful ways. I pray that every voter will get to know all candidates and carefully consider who you choose to vote for and support.”
Dye thanked those who had supported him and credited his wife, Lane, as being particularly supportive in his effort.
Dye appeared to leave the door open for the future in his statement saying, “We will resume our efforts in the future.”
