Municipal Judge binds over four cases to Panola County grand jury

Several defendants were referred to the grand jury by Judge Bill McKenzie during Batesville Municipal Court Wednesday.
Desmond Pope, 510 Green Rd., Pope, was referred to the grand jury for forgery.
Cassidy Barbee, 295 Rutherford, Batesville, was bound over to the grand jury for aggravated assault.
Dewayne Henry, 1282 Plantation, Jackson, was referred to the grand jury for felony false pretense.
Deandre Cole, 112 Williams, Batesville, had his case bound over to the grand jury for rape.
Initial appearance
Shakiffany Powell, 301 Jeffries, Batesville, had a malicious mischief charge dismissed after the affiant, Jerrica Hamilton failed to appear.
Shashanna Bishop, 108 Ozbirn, Batesville, paid $320 in full prior to court for embezzlement.
Jerry McBrayer, 290 Tate Panola, Como, had a malicious mischief charge dismissed after the affiant Christina Hines failed to appear to prosecute.
Anthony Pride, 7835 Hwy. 3 N, Darling, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault by grabbing and biting Takita Nash’s finger at Sonic.
Takita Nash, 3872 Salbino Rd., Lambert, entered a not guilty plea to simple assault by choking and busting Anthony Pride’s lip.
Both Nash and Pride had trials set for February 17.
Jennifer Bramlett, 19130 Hwy. 51, Sardis, was fined $2,671 for DUI-other, driving while license suspended, two counts of child neglect, reckless driving, no child restraint and no proof of insurance.
She had a petit larceny charge dismissed after the affiant Jessica Hunt failed to appear to prosecute.
Justin P. White, 930 Drummond, Nashville, Tenn., had a case for DUI and running a stop sign continued for a week so he can return with an attorney.
Bobby G. Pitcock, 119 Hillcrest, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to DUI and careless driving. He was fined $919.
Nicholas Leach, 3390 Davis Chapel, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to false pretense and was fined $620.
Stephanie Renix, 408 Dewberry, Sardis, entered a guilty plea to false pretense and had old fines of $714 that have been due since July 2003.
She was ordered to have all her fines paid in full within 30 days or serve 90 days in jail.
Terry Harris, 105 Cole Dr., Batesville, entered the city’s work program for 17 days in lieu of paying $947 in old fines that have been due since October 2007.
Billy Middleton, 260 Green Briar, Courtland, was sentenced to six months in jail for failing to pay his old fines of $1,696 that have been due since June 2007.
Judge McKenzie told him if he paid his fines in full he could be released from jail.
Truman Johnson Jr., 117-F Lester, Batesville, had contempt of court-old fines of $1,189 that have been due since April 2009.
He told the judge he could pay his fines in full because he had a job now.
The judge told him to pay his fines in full by Feb. 15 or serve six months in jail.
John E. Saxton, 407-B Coles Point, Batesville, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for old fines of $459 that have been due since June 2007.
If he pays his fines he can be released from jail.
Keldrick Henderson, 112 Williams, Batesville, entered the city’s work program for 10 days in lieu of paying his old fines of $553 that have been due since January 2009.
Cases set for trial
Katrina Lawson, 85-A Lawson, Batesville, had a domestic violence-simple and petit larceny charge withdrawn by the affiant Steven Chaffin.
Steven Chaffin, 1019 Birchwood, Jackson, had petit larceny and malicious mischief charges withdrawn by affiant Katrina Lawson.
Rickie Taylor, 12475 Hwy. 310 W, Como, was found guilty domestic violence-simple.
He was fined $390 due in 30 days.
Otis Ray, 11463 Tatum, Tillatoba, was fined $767 for DUI-first.

Nina Patterson, 318 Panola, Batesville, was fined $167 for running a stop sign.
Dylan Redwine, 505 China Rd., Pope, was fined $152 for careless driving.
Duane Elrod, 202 D. Lester St., Batesville, was fined $742 for no proof of insurance and speeding.
George D. Miles Jr., 981 A Wells Ext., Courtland, was fined $167 for running a red light.
Ronnie Moore, 201 Gordon Dr., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to running a stop sign. A trial was set for February 10.
Yvonne Ford, 3392-C Cotton Plant, Batesville, was given the lower proof of insurance fine of $193 after providing proof she purchased insurance.
Michael S. Baker, 100 Valley Stone, Huntsville, Ala., was fined $452 for speeding and no driver’s license.
Kimyunta M. Gilliam, 507 Cotton St., Marks, was fined $590 for no proof of insurance and no seat belt.
Alvin C. Atkinson, 734 Atkinson Rd., Batesville, was fined $199 for expired tag.
Nikki Ellis, 410 B. Armstrong, Batesville, was fined $292 for no driver’s license.
