Three defendants were referred to the Panola County Grand Jury during Wednesday’s session of Batesville Municipal Court. Two men, Frank Griffin, 2446 Barnacre Rd., Batesville and John H. Doyle, 435 Tubbs Rd., Batesville, face charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Jeffrey Nelson, 201 Atkins St., Sardis, was referred to the grand jury on one count of robbery, one count of auto burglary and two counts of shoplifting.
Public drunk
A regular offender in Batesville Municipal Court was admonished by Judge William McKenzie and sentenced to “time served.” Marvin Brownlee, 207 Vance St., Batesville, appeared before the judge for at least the 15th time in the past six months on a public drunk charge, but the latest arrest was not easy to remember for the defendant.
“Where did you get arrested this time?” McKenzie asked.
Brownlee told the judge he could not remember.
“You were at Friendly Supermarket,” the judge said. “It seems like you are getting drunk there a lot lately and they are calling the police.”
The judge gave Brownlee time served for the public drunk charge, but also ordered him to stay away from Friendly Supermarket.
