Puddle jumping cases to be heard Dec. 2

A Batesville man told Judge Bill McKenzie during Municipal Court Wednesday he did not run from the police because he was trying to “jump over a mud hole.”
James Fletcher, 113-B Cole Dr., Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct by running from the police and public drunk.
“I was dodging a water hole and just jumped across the puddle,” said Fletcher.
A trial date was set for December 2.
Initial appearance
Reginald Kirkwood, 228 Henry Harris, Batesville, was fined $300 for open container.
“I held it up for my brother because it was my vehicle,” said Kirkwood.
James Scott IV, 192 M. Flowers, Batesville, paid his fine of $390 in full prior to court for possession of marijuana.
Anthony Newman, 211 East St., Batesville, was given time served in lieu of paying $300 for disorderly conduct. MDOC also has a hold on him.
Antionette Smith, 105-B Henry Heafner, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to malicious mischief by hitting affiant Marcia Black’s car with a tire iron.
“I didn’t hit her car with a jack iron or whatever that paper says,” said Smith after the judge read the affidavit
Smith also had old fines of $1,957 with six months suspended jail time hanging over her head.
After the judge was informed Smith was seven months pregnant he told her to report back in March to serve her six months in jail since she’s due January 29.
Cory Vaughn, 112 Williams, Batesville, entered a not guilty plea to disorderly conduct-failure to comply. A trial was set for December 16.
James Mosley Jr., 91-B Elbert Smith, Batesville, was fined $620 after entering a guilty plea to possession of marijuana in a vehicle.
Keldrick Henderson, 112 Williams, Batesville, had a simple assault by threat case dismissed after the affiant Tenisha Jones failed to appear to prosecute.
Joseph Kaufman, 222 Dogwood, Batesville, had a DUI-refusal and speeding case continued.
Jose Garcia, 216 Broadway, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to DUI, no driver’s license, open container and no proof of insurance. He was fined $1,987.
Califfero Purnell, 109 Lester, Batesville, paid his old fines of $537 after court. The fines had been due since September 2007.
C.W. Harris, 4060 Curtis Rd., Batesville, had contempt of court-old fines of $1,223 that have been due since November 2008.
The judge told him if he didn’t pay his fines in full he would serve six months in jail.
Zeandra Butler, 509 Greenbriar, Courland, had old fines of $1,107 that had been due since December 2008.
She told the judge she hadn’t worked because she’d been pregnant and got a job “yesterday.”
Judge McKenzie told her he was listening for a solution.
“I will go get the money now,” she replied.
Butler never came back to pay her fines.
Queinton Tellis, 6183 Hwy. 6, Batesville, was referred to the grand jury for burglary and petit larceny.
Cases set for trial
Kathy Andrews, was found guilty of shoplifting and was fined $1,120.
Michael Harmon, 17 Harmon Circle, Batesville, had a case for DUI-refusal, possession of marijuana ina vehicle, possession of paraphernalia and careless driving case continued for a week.
He will be represented by Attorney Helen Kelly.
David Demalignon, 2495 John Branch, Batesville, entered a no contest plea to DUI-first and careless driving. He was fined $919.
