Jennifer Hall (left), librarian at Batesville Public Library, made a surprise presentation to Irene Rhodes at Monday’s Friends of the Library meeting. Rhodes was the recipient of an award from the Friends of Mississippi Libraries in recognition of her volunteer work at the local library. She was named for honorable mention in the Ruby Assaf Presidential Award program. Assaf, of McComb, was a long-time supporter of libraries and had served as president of the Friends of Mississippi Libraries. She died in January at age 88.
