State rep reports progress made on Highway 6 plan
Mississippi Department of Transportation has recently finished negotiations with two consulting engineering firms who will be responsible for the proposed Highway 6 Bypass project in Batesville according to the office of Mississippi Representative Warner McBride who serves as chairman on the House Transportation Committee.
The engineering firms selected are ABMB Engineering, who will be responsible for the East half of the bypass and Baker Engineering who will be responsible for the West half of the bypass. Each firm estimates that it could take up to 18 months to complete the engineering and design prior to moving into the “right of way” phase.
MDOT is now in the process of selecting an engineering firm to complete the engineering and design for the construction of two additional lanes along with two additional bridges from the intersection of Highway 61 and Highway 6 West to the Coahoma/Quitman County line according to a news release from McBride’s office.
“As MDOT moves into the new phase of the Highway 6 project, I know that there will be many questions and concerns,” said McBride. “As we move through this process, I want to encourage those with questions to contact me.”
