Kirk merciless with Green Wave

North Delta found things tough going last Friday night as both varsity basketball teams were soundly defeated by visiting Kirk in District 1-AAA action.
Kirk girls 57, ND 28
 In varsity girls play, the No.1 ranked Raideretts flexed their muscles by cruising to a 57-28 victory. Raven Johnson and Elizabeth Taylor garnered 11 points each  while Morgan Claire Rose supplied ten markers as Kirk remained unbeaten in conference play at 7-0 and 20-3 overall.
 North Delta ( 10-7;3-4)  stayed within reach of Kirk by trailing 15-7 after one quarter of play, but was blitzed 17-1 in the second period and never recovered. Ginger Stephens paced the Lady Wave with nine points followed by Sarah Johnson’s six second half points. Ally Alford chipped in five points while Emy Cay Donaldson and Megan Bollinger scored three each. Mary Emily Morris finished with two points.

Jaggars Denley poured in 15 points to guide Kirk in the easy win. Andrew McDurmon added 11 points for Kirk who lead 28-12 at halftime before blowing the game open  by holding North Delta scoreless in the third quarter.
 Alex Greenlee led North Delta (4-12; 0-7) with six points. Payton Neal contributed five with Avery Roland registering four points. Joseph Cox tallied two points with Joseph Wright rounding out the scoring with one point.

Both junior high tilts came down to the wire with each squad earning a split.
North Delta avoided a sweep with a 26-24 win in the girls contest. Isabella Morrow’s two free throws with 40 seconds remaining proved to be the winning margin. Sayle Stennett and Alford paced North Delta with six points while Donaldson pumped in five. Faith Bollinger added four points while Morrow and Blakely Denman each had a basket. Erin Douglas finished with one point.
 In the boys matchup, Kirk came away with the victory by hitting the game-winning shot with seven seconds remaining. Colin Hartman led North Delta and all scorers with 13 points. Chris Burchfield added eight points while Matt Burchfield added seven. Jordan Cox knocked down three free throws for the Green Wave.
