James C. Hill

BATESVILLE–James C. “Jim” Hill, age 51, died Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Northwest Miss. Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 at Wells Funeral Home with interment to follow in Cold Springs Cemetery near Sardis. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Wells Funeral Home. Reverend Kevin Crofford will be officiating the service.

Mr. Hill was born November 1, 1964 in Batesville to the late Alfred C. “Bubba” Hill and the late Ruby Dettor Hill. He was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church.

Mary McCarter

Mary Elizabeth McCaa McCarter, 96, was born on December 7, 1919, in her home in Sardis, MS, surrounded by her loving family and went home to be with her Lord on June 4, 2016.  Mary was the daughter of the late Dr. R.P. McCaa and Naida McCaa of Sardis. 

She served in various jobs during her working career.  During WW II, she worked at the Ration Board, was secretary for the County Agent in Sardis, secretary for the Director of Athletics at Ole Miss, and an office deputy for several years.  She was also secretary for the Sardis Chamber of Commerce, and Sardis United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Before her retirement, she was employed for the Panola County Welfare Department and was a founding officer of Heflin Heritage Association. 

Her greatest joy in life was her family – all four generations.  Mary is survived by her daughter, Sally Kyle Foshee; grandchildren Robert (Sherri) Foshee, Lisa Lambert and Mona Foshee; her great-grandchildren, Dana (Wes) Brewer, Kyle (Lindsay) Foshee and Kaleb (Chelsea) Foshee; and her great-great-grandchildren, Ava Lea, Carlea, and Mac Brewer and John-Wyatt Foshee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. “Mac” McCarter; sister, Tinke Sawyer and brother, Robert “Bob” McCaa. 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 2pm in the Sardis United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Sardis.  Visitation will be held in the church on Monday from 1-2pm.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Sardis United Methodist Church, Heflin Heritage Association in Sardis or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Henry Lesley Williams

COLDWATER––Henry Lesley “Pop” Williams, 79, passed away Thursday, June 2, 2016, at his residence. 

Services were held Saturday, June 4, 2016, at New Garden Baptist Church. Interment followed at Cockrum Cemetery. Brantley Funeral Home of Olive Branch had charge of arrangements. 

Mr. Williams, born March 25, 1937, in Warren, Tenn., to the late Ben Walter Williams and Mary Lou Williams, was a retired truck driver and was a member of New Garden Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. 

He was preceded in death by: two sons, Ben Lesley Williams and David Glen Williams and one sister, Nadine McGee.

 Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Nora Ellen Williams; one son, Bradley Dewayne Williams and his wife, Tammy Bailey Williams; one grandson, Michael Dewayne Williams and his wife, Sarah Elexa Williams, all of Coldwater; granddaughters, Elizabeth Kathryn Sanborn and husband, Scott Sanborn of Olive Branch and Emily Darby Williams of Batesville; great-grandchildren, Hailey Williams, Taylor Williams, Kayla Sanborn, Liam Sanborn, Ellie Kate Sanborn, and Bailey Williams; two brothers, Jimmy Williams of Coldwater and Dan Williams of Byhalia; four sisters, Wanda McGee of Gatlin, Tenn., Brenda Joyner of Southaven, Janie Wylie and Judy Wylie of Byhalia.
