Lady Tigers shut out Greenville 9/1/2015

In the South Panola slowpitch softball game Thursday, Lady Tiger shortstop Hailey Reed got caught a little too far off first base as Greenville turned a double play with the pitcher catching the hit and throwing down to first for the outs. However, South Panola was able to shut them out 10-0 in six innings. The Lady Tigers will be home today to host Charleston beginning at 4 p.m. The Panolian photo by Myra Bean

Lady Tigers shut out Greenville

The South Panola Lady Tigers slowpitch softball team shut out Greenville 10-0 in six innings Thursday afternoon on Lady Tiger Field.

On the mound for the Lady Tigers was junior Lea Todd Ware who pitched the complete game. She pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts.

The game was scoreless through two and a half innings. In bottom of the third, the Lady Tigers scored six runs. On a double down the left field line by junior center fielder Chloe Morgan, Caitlin Seay and Hailey Reed scored the first two runs. Seay had singled to get on base and Reed had doubled.

After Morgan doubled, senior catcher Rebekah Garner doubled to center to drive home Morgan.

Sidney Morgan slapped a single to center driving home Garner. Tre’Meisha Tolliver singled to the center field wall, driving home Morgan Parker who got on base on an error and Sydney Morgan, for the last two runs of the inning.

The Lady Tigers scored another three runs in bottom of the fifth. Garner got on base on a fielder’s choice and Parker singled. On a sacrifice fly to center field by Sydney Morgan, both scored. Morgan had three RBIs on the day. Bethany Cotten doubled and drove home Ware who had singled to get on base.

With runners in scoring position on second and third, Seay tried to get the 10th run home, but hit a fly ball to center field for the third out which forced a sixth inning.

Reed doubled to get on base and Chloe Morgan’s triple sent her home for the winning run.
Chloe Morgan led at the plate going 4-for-4, with two singles, a double and a triple, and one RBI.

Other hitters include Reed, 3-for-4, two doubles, two runs; Garner, 1-for-3, one double, one RBI; Parker, 2-for-3, two runs; Sydney Morgan, 1-for-3, one run, three RBIs; Ware, 2-for-3, one run; Tolliver, 2-for-3, two RBIs; Cotten, 1-for-3, one double, one RBI; and Seay, 1-for-3, one run.
The Lady Tigers played in the Grenada tournament this past weekend and went 0-2.  They lost 11-0 and 3-2 to Grenada The Lady Tigers return to action today to host Charleston at 4 p.m.
