Reginald Jones
BATESVILLE––Reginald Jones, 89, died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. He was the husband of Helen Jones of Batesville.

Services were held Saturday at the Batesville Church of Christ. A committal service was held at Indianola City Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Mr. Jones, born Feb. 17, 1926 to the late Luther Jones and Ada Love Tharp Jones in Sunflower County, attended school in Litton until the eighth grade at which time he had to come home to help on the family farm. When he was 18 he joined the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II in Germany and France. He was owner/partner of J&M Construction Co. in Indianola and Batesville. He was a member of the Church of Christ most of his life and served as elder, song leader, and Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include: his wife of 70 years, Helen Jones; four daughters, Faye Donahue (Harold) of Batesville, Nell Millsaps of Batesville, Sue Johnson (Hal) of Sardis, Dottie Blansett (Tony) of McCarley; one brother, Jimmie Jones of Indianola; seven grandchildren, Page Donahue McNair (Tony), Parrish Donahue (Mandy), Chase Montgomery (Colleen), Todd Montgomery, Chad Blansett, Grace Ann Blansett Carpenter, Clint Johnson (Bethany); 11 great grandchildren, Casey and Kylie Beard, Marlee and Max Donahue, Sarah Dale, Jones, and Caroline Montgomery, Tre’ Johnson, Aden Blansett, Hannah and Eva Kellen Carpenter.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, William Herbert Jones.

Raymond E. Putman Jr.
BATESVILLE–– Raymond “Ray” E. Putman, Jr., age 45, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home in Batesville.

Services were held Saturday at Terza United Methodist Church with interment following in the church cemetery.  Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Survivors include his parents, Raymond and Betty Putman of Batesville;  one brother, Guy Putman (Michelle) of Batesville.

Selma Cheek Austin Thorn
GREENWOOD––Selma Cheek Austin Thorn, 77, died Monday, June 22, 2015, at her residence. She was the mother of Dale Austin of Batesville.

Services will be held Thursday June 25, 2015 11:00 a.m. at Williams and Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Williams and Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood. Rev Joseph Sansing will officiate the services.

She was born on April 4, 1938 in Dell, Ark. to the late David and Sadie Noland Cheek and lived in Greenwood.  She worked for Baldwin Piano for many years and then retired from National Picture Frame. She was a member of Valley Hill Baptist Church.

 She was preceded in death by her husband Claud Curtis Thorn Sr. and a grandson Austin Curtis Thorn.

Survivors along with her son include: one daughter, Brenda Turner of Greenwood; sons, Claud Curtis Thorn Jr. of Bay Shore, N.Y. and Vince Thorn of Greenwood; sisters, Shirley Underwood of Gore Springs, Alice Worrell, Bonnie Watkins, Rachel Grones and Kathy Carpenter, all of Greenwood; brother, David Vinson Cheek of Richland; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
