Batesville aldermen voted unanimously Tuesday to award the downtown renovation project to Pavecon Ltd. of Byron.

Pavecon was the lowest of four bidders whose bid packages were opened at the city’s May 4 meeting of the board of mayor and aldermen.

Pavecon bid $636,125.55 for the project that will replace sidewalks and realign parking, lighting and landscaping in the northeast quadrant of the Public Square.

A Mississippi Department of Transportation grant will provide up to $420,000 of the funding.
Work should begin in the next 30 to 60 days, City Engineer Blake Mendrop said.
