Hilda Banks Holt
BATESVILLE––Hilda Banks Holt, 98, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at Methodist University in Memphis.

Memorial services were held Thursday, May 14, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Holt, born June 25, 1916, in Neshoba County, to the late Emma Spivey Banks and Francis Marion Banks, graduated high school in Philadelphia. She met her husband during WWII while working at Camp McCain in Grenada. She was a bookkeeper for the city of Clearwater for 25 years. She was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Explorer’s Bible Study.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer David “Jack” Holt, brothers, Hubert, Herman, Spivey and Oren Banks and her sister Juanita Banks Brasell.

She was the aunt of Frances Banks Amis, Mitzi Banks Still, Pat Brassell Ross, Banks Brasell and Mike Brasell, all of Batesville and Meb Banks Reedy of Selmer, Tenn.

The family asks that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 797, Batesville, Miss 38606.

William Sherrell Guest and Betty Jean Ware Guest
Memphis, TN – Mr. William Sherrell Guest, age 85, and his wife, Mrs. Betty Jean Ware Guest, age 84,   passed away Monday, May 18, 2015 in Memphis, TN.

The services for both will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, MS. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5-8 at Wells. Interment will follow at Forrest Memorial Park.

Sherrell was born February 24, 1930 to Stanley Guest and Julia Pritchard Guest in Yalobusha County MS. He was the Plant Manager for Unarco in Memphis, TN and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his shop. 

Betty was born January 25, 1930 to Jacob Ware and Sabie Pinkston Ware in Carroll County, MS. She was the V.P. for Jack Morris Auto Glass for 45 years in Memphis. Both were members of Grace United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed was very faithful to her career and grandchildren.
Survivors include Sherrell’s 2 sisters, Barbara Agee (Billy) of Southaven, and Janie Boswell (Bob) of Cordova. B


Bobbie Nell McThunel

BATESVILLE––Bobbie Nell McThunel, 57, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge of arrangements. Minister Joyce Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Burial will be in Bethlehem Church Cemetery.

McThunel, born March 23, 1958 in Batesville, to the late Robert Lofton and Johnnie Mae Fletcher Lofton, was a member of West Camp M.B. Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Gilbert McThunel II and Christian Bobo, both of Batesville; two daughters, Courtney McThunel and Andrienne McThunel, both of Batesville; one brother, James Lofton of Beloit, Wis.; two sisters, Patricia Lofton of Beloit and Angela McCain of Horn Lake; one grandchild.

C. W. Johnson
COMO––C.W. Johnson, 64, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, in Southaven.

Services were held Wednesday at Sardis Baptist Educational Building. Burial was in Hunter’s Chapel Cemetery in Como. Rodgers Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Survivors include: his wife, Romie Johnson of Como; seven daughters, Angela Daughtery of Austin, Texas; Janise Wortham and Shantonia Johnson, both of Senatobia, Sharonta Bobo and LaQwanta Bobo, both of Como, Glenda Johnson Green of Council Bluff, Iowa and Aukizzy Johnson of Dallas; three sisters, Martha Johnson and Rosie Johnson, both of Kansas City, Mo. and Dorothy Johnson of Memphis; four brothers, William C. Johnson of Chicago, Robert Earl Johnson of Memphis, Eddie Lee Johnson of Como and Fred Johnson of Oxford; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Shelton Russell Morris

BATESVILLE––Shelton Russell Morris, 46, died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary, who has charge of arrangements. Pastor William Johnson will officiate.

Morris, born June 28, 1968, to Rufus Morris of Southaven, Mich. and Ruth Morris of Batesville, attended South Panola High School. He was a member of Greater Concord M.B. Church and a truck driver.

Survivors along with his parents include: one son, Derricho Morris; two daughters Tirra Morris and Shelby Morris, both of Memphis; two brothers, Jason Morris of Southaven, Mich. and Cedric Flowers of Pope; three sisters, Junail Morris of Southaven, Mich. Cassandra Morris of Horn Lake and Sherron Berry of Memphis; and one grandchild.

Clara E. Perry

SARDIS––Clara E. Perry, 93, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gospel Temple Church, 604 Gilmore St. in Senatobia.

Visitation will be held today from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary.

Burial will be in Senatobia Memorial Cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Perry, born April 4, 1922, to the late Pete Edwards and Winnie Simmons, was a retired cook at Green Hill School in Sardis and a member of Greater Harvest Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include: four sons, James Arthur Perry of Crenshaw, D.C. Perry and Tommie Perry, both of Sardis and Ray Perry of Elgin, Ill.; three daughters, Winnie Clark, Carolyn Stokes and Clyde Hill, all of Sardis; 32 grandchildren and 96 great-grandchildren.
