Dorothy Anderson
BATESVILLE––Dorothy Anderson, 75, died Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Services were held Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Father Sam Messina officiated. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Anderson, born Aug. 13, 1939, to the late Jimmy Jose and Mary Harrison Shull Jose in Clarksdale, worked as executive secretary for Lipscomb and Pitts Insurance Agency in Memphis for 27 years.

Survivors include: her husband, Morris Edwin Anderson of Batesville; two daughters, Kelly Wilson and Melissa Anderson of Batesville; one son, Joel Anderson of Laurel; two brothers, Wayne Jose of Benton, Ky. and Frank Jose of Greensboro, N.C.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Estelle Barefoot
CHARLESTON––Estelle Barefoot, 82, died Monday, March 16, 2015 in Charleston.
Services were held Wednesday at Newsom Funeral Chapel in Charleston. Burial was in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery.

Mrs. Barefoot was a member of the Charleston Church of Christ. She worked and retired as office manager of Whitten Law Firm of Charleston then continued her career as office manager at Tallahatchie General  Hospital, from which she also retired.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Ralph Hillhouse and her parents, George and Bertice Lindley.

Survivors include: her husband, Tom Barefoot of Charleston; her daughter Joyce  Butler of Waterproof, La.; son Larry (Carolyn) Hillhouse of Courtland; her step-daughter Susan (George) Houston of Sumner and four step-sons: Larry Barefoot of Charleston; Harry (Ann) Barefoot of Oakland; Greg Barefoot of Enid and Brad (Vickie) Barefoot of Pope;  her sister Nita Allen of Oakland; four grandchildren: Whit Butler of Houston, Texas; Chris Butler of Waterproof, La.; Diana Fillyaw of Water Valley, MS; Jackie Wilkerson of Courtland and five great grandchildren.

Elbert Leon Barr
BATESVILLE––Elbert Leon Barr, 73, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Sardis Community Nursing Home.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at West Camp M.B. Church in Batesville. Rev. Zannie Leland Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be held today from 1 – 6 p.m. at Eddie Robinson Funeral Home in Batesville and Saturday at the church from noon until service time. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home has charge.

Barr, born Oct. 10, 1941, in Batesville, to the late John Barr and Mavis Reed Barr, was a construction worker and a member of West Camp M.B. Church in Batesville.
Survivors include: one son, Patrick A. Barr of Antioch, Calif. and one brother, Lamar Reed of Chicago.

Thomas Asa Cook
BATESVILLE––Thomas Asa Cook, 91, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Tri-Lakes West Campus in Batesville.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Cook was born in Wheatley Ark. on February 12, 1924 to the late John Cyril Cook Sr. and Lula May Clifton Cook. He began his career working for Ford Motor Co. in Memphis and transferred with the company to plants in Lorraine, Ohio, and Wayne and Dearborn, Michigan. He became Supervisor of Product Cost Accounting and worked as Supervisor of General Accounting. He retired from Ford in Michigan and moved to Hot Springs Village, Ark.. in 1990.

Survivors include: a host of nieces and nephews, including Bob Haltom (wife Margaret) his care-givers in Batesville; and his step-daughter, Rebecca Whelan of Little Rock.

Ann Parker Cloud
MEMPHIS––Ann Parker Cloud, 88, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, March 16, 2015 at Methodist Hospice House in Memphis.

Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Barbee Cemetery in Lula. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. at Dickins Funeral Home in Batesville, preceding the services. Dickins Funeral Home has charge.

Cloud, was born on July 2, 1926 in Helena, Ark. to Freddie Elma Caruthers Parker and Walter Irving Parker. She was a member of Batesville Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Cloud is survived by two daughters, Gail Cook (David) of Dallas, TX and Kay Davis (Mitch) of Collierville, TN; two sons, Michael Cloud of Houston, TX and Steve Cloud (Debra) of Olive Branch, MS; one sister, Celeste Monteith of Batesville; eight grandchildren, John Paul Cook, Matthew Cook, Michael Cook, Julie Cloud Aquino, Nathan Cloud, Diana Cloud, Ryan Davis and Tyler Davis; and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Cook and Julianna Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Cloud; her parents and one brother Kenneth Parker. 

John V. Grigg
HARMONTOWN––John V. Grigg, 58, died Monday, March 16, 2015, at his residence.

Services were incomplete at press time and will be published as soon as they become available. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge of arrangements.

Grigg was born Aug. 31, 1956, in Memphis, to Charles Grigg and Mary Bell Healy.

Survivors include: one daughter, Mary Anna G. Harris of Como; one son, Matt Harris of Como; one step-son, Cameron Miller of Montgomery, Ala.; one sister, Karan Jones of Tyro and four grandchildren.

Bruce Johnson
GREEN BAY, Wis.––Bruce Allen Johnson, 60, died March 14, 2015 at his residence.

The family will hold a memorial service for Mr. Johnson Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Courtland. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Bruce was born January 19, 1955 to the late Darel Johnson and Becky Lorette Johnson in Maine. He worked as a mechanic by trade.

Survivors include: two daughters; Stacy Dequaine of Abrahams, Wis., Shanna Johnson of Green Bay; three sons; Brandon Johnson of Batesville, Tyler Pittman of Beldon and Phillip Appleton of Batesville; two sisters; Verna Johnson Brockman of Foley, Ala., and Vanessa Johnson Aaron of Courtland and eight grandchildren.

Jeanette Taylor
OAKLAND–Jeanette Taylor, 73, formerly of Batesville, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Yalobusha County Nursing Home in Water Valley.

Services will be held Saturday, March 21 in the chapel of Pate Jones Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Longtown Cemetery. Pate Jones Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Taylor, born Oct. 7, 1941, in Sarah, to the late Travis Nelson and Imogene Nelson, worked at the Ramada Inn in Batesville for over 20 years.

Survivors include: daughter, Rhonda Mitchell (Wayne) of Hernando; son, William H. Taylor (Jennifer) of Oakland; sisters, Sue Pittman of Charleston, and Renee Brewer of Courtland; brother, Don Nelson of Courtland; three grandchildren, Morgan Bennett, Thomas Mitchell and Luke Padgett; and two great-grandchildren, Brooks Mitchell and Sawyer Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her son, John M. Taylor.

The family request that any memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
