Having lost its last three district games in which they made only two three-point baskets, the North Delta Lady Green Wave found their long range touch Tuesday night as they connected on six treys against visiting Bayou Academy.

As it turned out, North Delta would need a lot more as the Lady Wave fended off a late Colt surge to come away with a key 50-42 victory.

Lauren Snyder’s 14 points and seven rebounds led North Delta in scoring while Janie Brasell and Shelby Province added 11 points each. Brasell’s three treys from beyond the arch coupled with four-of-eight shooting from Province on the inside proved to be the key ingredient as North Delta upped its record to 12-7 and 4-5 in district play. Crissy Tubbs led Bayou (16-12; 3-6) with 16 points.

The Lady Wave came out smoking in the first quarter by connecting on seven of 15 shots to take a 20-10 lead. Bayou then went on a short 8-3 spurt midway through the second quarter as Haley Sbravati drained a pair of three-pointers  to help close the margin to 23-18.

North Delta would then regroup to close out the first half on an 8-2 run to take a 31-20 lead at halftime as Megan Bollinger and Snyder added five points each to lead the charge.

The Lady Wave extended its margin to 35-20 as the second half got underway on a pair of easy lay ups off turnovers. North Delta would keep its double digit lead until 3:25 left in the game as Kailyn Lofton’s three-point play made the score 44-37. Tubbs would later add a three-point play of her own to close the gap to 45-40 at the 2:03 mark, but it proved to be not enough as the Wave iced the contest with five straight points.

Sarah Johnson chipped in with six points, six steals and seven rebounds while Bollinger added five points and three rebounds. Anna Lloyd completed the scoring with three points and four assists.

After trailing the entire first half, Bayou outscored the Green Wave 20-0 in the third quarter before holding on for the win. The loss dropped North Delta to 2-7 in district and 5-12 overall while the Colts improved to 6-3 and 12-10 on the season.

North Delta jumped out to an 11-1 lead early in the first quarter as Will Hartzell and Will Kidder scored all the Wave points. Ridge Simmerman knocked down a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the stanza to give the Waves a 14-8 advantage.

Bayou began to chip away at the lead as the second quarter got underway. John Thomas Aycock, Hayden Fleming and Peyton Aldridge added four points each to cut the margin to 23-19 at intermission.

The third quarter was all Bayou as Nat Jones scored 10 of his team high 12 points. Fleming gave the Colts their first lead of the game at 24-23 at the 5:18 mark. Aldridge later added a wide open three-pointer to give the visitors a 30-23 lead. Jones then closed out the quarter with a trey from the top of the key to extend the margin to 39-23.

North Delta ended the scoring drought in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter on a Hartzell basket. The senior led all scorers with 18 points to go along with three blocked shots. Kidder followed with nine points, all coming in the first half.

Other scorers included Simmerman with five points, Cole Devazier with three points, Dennis King added two points and Hunter Baker with one point.

In junior high boys action, North Delta eased past Bayou 40-23 as Matt Burchfield led the way with 11 points. Payton Neal and Luke Lewis added seven each while Alex Greenlee supplied six. Myles Garner provided four points with Devazier adding three and Carter Gee finishing with two points.

North Delta hosted Desoto (Ark.) last night in a non-district tilt and will close out district play tonight at Lee Academy beginning at 3 p.m. with a pair of seventh grade games.
