David Bridges
MEMPHIS–David Bridges, 70, died Friday, December 12, 2014 in Memphis.
Services were held Monday at Blue Lake Baptist Church.Burial was in Crowder Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home had charge.
Mr. Bridges was a farmer and a member of Blue Lake Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Yolanda Bridges Brown and his parents Coleman and Edith Bridges.
Survivors include: his wife, Sue Bridges of Lambert, daughters Brandi (Jimmy) Appleton of Pope, Mamie (Vince) Adcock of Courtland; brothers Louis (Elaine) Bridges of Clinton, Leon (Beverly) Bridges of Clinton, Larry (Ann) Bridges of Dauphin Island, Ala. and six grandchildren.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Blue Lake Baptist Church.
Micheal Derrick Cook
MARKS–Micheal Derrick Cook, 33, died Saturday, December 13, 2014.
Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Goodwill Church of God. Burial will be in Curtis Union Cemetery. Kimbro Funeral Home has charge.
Cook was employed at Reed Farms and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Curtis Station. He graduated from North Delta School and then attended Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he received his Associates Degree in Tool and Die.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vera & Carlyle Whitworth and his paternal grandparents, Leona & D.C Cook.
He is survived by his parents, Mike and Carol Cook of Marks; one sister Michelle (Chris) Aldridge of Batesville; brother Dalton Cook of Marks; his nephew Christopher Aldridge of Batesville and nieces Carley, Stella and Madeline Aldridge of Batesville.
Robert Eugene French
BARTLETT, Tenn.–Robert Eugene French, 96, died Friday, December 5, 2014/
Services were held Tuesday, December 9 at Black Jack Presbyterian Church in Batesville. Don Howie officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
French, born July 8, 1918, in Paris, to the late Joseph Robert French and Ola French, was a carpenter and member of Carpenters Local 345 Shriner. Mr. French was best known among the Black Jack Community for rebuilding the Black Jack School which is now the Black Jack Community Center. He worked until he was 94 when his eyesight failed him.
Survivors include: his wife of 74 years, Ethel Russell French of Bartlett, Tenn.; three sons, Larry French of Memphis; three sons, Larry French of Memphis, Gerald French (Mary Anne) of Cordova, Tenn., Michael French (Judy) of Batesville; three daughters, Barbara Ashabanner (Bill) of Bartlett, Tenn., Nancy Freeman (Kevin) of Batesville, Tina Owen (Walter) of Red Banks; 14 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.
Patty L. Riggen Taylor
POPE––Patty L. Riggen Taylor, 79, died Friday, December 12, 2014.
Family visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope. The family will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. and the memorial service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with burial immediately following. Arrangements are in care of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Memphis.
Mrs. Taylor was a retiree from the South Panola School District.She was a member of the Panola County Triad and completed Batesville’s first Citizen’s Police Academy and she excelled in that class. Pat also completed CERT (Citizens Emergency Response Team) training. She was a trained storm spotter with the NWS and at the age of 74 she passed her Amateur Radio Operators Technician Class FCC License. Her Call sign was KF5HXE. She was also the Treasurer of the Panola County Amateur Radio Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert E. Riggen, her parents and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: her husband, William Taylor of Pope; two daughters: Cindy (Guy) Martin of Byhalia; Kim Samples (Shawn Tennant) of Hernando; two sons: Kenneth (Jeanette) Riggen of Camby, Ind., and Richard (Kathy) Riggen of Zionsville, Ind.; Step-childen: Willie (Becky) Taylor of Hernando, Paula (George) Roseberry of Nesbit, and Annette House of Atoka, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 12 step great-grandchildren. One sister, Janet (Les) Rodgers of Lebanon, Ind. and one brother Tom (Polly) Giles of Spring, Texas
Hazel P. Winters
BATESVILLE––Hazel P. Winters, 72, died Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.
There will be a private family gathering from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 16 at Wells Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville,
Winters was born September 11, 1942 to the late John William Ard and Ollie Elton Cox Ard in Marks.
She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Eugene Winters and one grandson Steven Winters.
Survivors include: two daughters, Vicki Winters Watkins of Batesville and Sheila Marie Winters of Courtland; one son; Steve Winters of Courtland; four grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Terry Whitten
Terry Whitten, age 58, died Thursday, December 11, 2014, at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel.
Services were held Sunday at Wells Funeral Home. with Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery.
Whitten, born on December 26, 1955 to the late James G. Whitten and Clara Kennedy Whitten in Memphis, was a resident at the Ellisville State School in Ellisville.
Survivors include: her mother, Clara Kennedy Whitten of Batesville; her sister, Nancy Whitten Cantrell of Vernon, Ala., and two brothers, Robert “Bob” Kennedy Whitten of Courtland and James G. “Jim” Whitten Jr. of Batesville.
The family has asked for memorials contributions be sent to Ellisville State School, 1101 Hwy 11 South, Ellisville, MS 39437
