The South Panola Lady Tigers slowpitch softball team evened its record at 5-5 overall, 0-3 district after a 4-1 win over longtime opponent Grenada (10-8) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

Lea Todd Ware pitched the complete game in seven innings for the Lady Tigers to pick up the win. She faced 26 batters, allowed six hits, one walk and had one strikeout.

The Lady Tiger defense was the difference in the game as it plugged up holes that Grenada tried to find.
Shortstop Haley Reid was in on six assisted outs and one unassisted out. The outfield caught most of what was popped their way with Makenzie Crutcher at left, Chloe Morgan at left center, Caitlyn Seay at right center and Bethany Cotten at right.

In the infield, first baseman Amber Helmes stretched for all she was worth to secure the throw and be in on eight outs at first.

Sydney Morgan had her own challenges at third base and met each one as she assisted on three outs with some acrobatic catches and caught a fly ball for the final out of the game.

South Panola got all the runs it would need in the first inning as Grenada shut the offense down the rest of the game. Sydney Morgan, Chloe Morgan and Makenzie Crutcher loaded the bases—the first two on singles, Crutcher on a walk.

Catcher Rebekah Garner singled, driving home Sydney Morgan for the first run.

Seay singled, driving home Chloe Morgan for the second run but was thrown out at home.

Helmes walked to reload the bases with two outs, driving in Crutcher for the third run.

The final run by Garner came on second baseman Mallory Meyers’ single.

Garner led the Lady Tigers at the plate going 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI (run batted in).

Other Lady Tiger hitters include Sydney Morgan, 2-for-4, one run; Reid, 1-for-4, one run; Chloe Morgan, 1-for-3, one run; Seay, 1-for-3, one run, one RBI; Meyers, 1-for-3, one RBI; Helmes, 1-for-3, one RBI; Helmes, 1-for-3; and Ware, 1-for-3.

The Lady Tigers resumed district action Wednesday at Tupelo. They return home Monday for a non-conference game with Strayhorn at 4 p.m.
