Snow in March?
On March 21-22, 1968 a snowstorm blew into North Mississippi with accumulations up to umpteen inches according to those who survived to exaggerate the story. Question is: Do you think we will experience snowfall with accumulation this March?


 

Ginette Yvette Broquet Garrett

POPE–– Ginette Garrett, 71, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Private family graveside services were held on Sunday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Mrs. Garrett was born June 7, 1943 in Boucq, France to the late Marcel and Marie Broquet. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by her husband, Robert S. Garrett of Pope; daughter, Linda Johnsey of Coffeeville and three grandchildren.


Dorothy Barnett Lipscomb

CORINTH––Dorothy Barnett Lipscomb, 91, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at County Cottage County Assisted Living.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, August 2 at 11 a.m. at Friendship Cemetery in Como. Magnolia Funeral Home of Corinth has charge.

Dot, the youngest child of the late William and Nina Ray Barnett, was a member of First United Methodist Church in Senatobia. She was the personal secretary for M. P. “Hot” Moore, the owner of Circle M Ranch in Senatobia, until her retirement. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Beck Lipscomb.

Memorials may be made in her memory to the charity of the donor’s choice. 



Billy Keith McMinn

ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. - Billy Keith McMinn, 80, formerly of Batesville, died Saturday, July 26, 2014 at his son’s home in Oakland.

Services will be held Wednesday at noon at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. and also Wednesday morning beginning at 9. Interment will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Batesville. 

McMinn, born October 13, 1933 in Louisville, Ken., to the late Glynn B. and Miriam Paris McMinn, received his bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Delta State University. He was the owner of McMinn and Daughter Accounting Firm in Rolling Meadows. He was a member of the former Meadows Baptist Church in Rolling Meadows, the Medina Shrine Temple of the Scottish Rites, and was a Master Mason. He was former Alderman for Rolling Meadows, past president of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and of Romeds. During his years as an active Shriner, he promoted the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Chicago by helping coordinate clinics with doctors and, at the same time, provided transportation for children to and from the clinics. He was also was a coordinator and treasurer for the Salvation Army.

He was preceded in death by one son, Harold McMinn.

Survivors include: his wife, Sara Moody McMinn of Rolling Meadows; daughter, Lorie L. Frank of Arlington Heights, Ill.; son, Keith McMinn of Oakland; two sisters, Sherry Hawkins of Indianola, Doris Wilson of Batesville; and 10 grandchildren.

The family requests that anyone wishing to make a memorial contribution in Mr. McMinn’s memory, to forward those to the Shriner Hospital for Children, 2211 North Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707.
