Leann Ballard

BATESVILLE – Leann Ballard, 31, died Thursday, July 10, 2014.

Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Armstrong Street Church of God. Pastor Terry Townsend will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cooley’s Mortuary has charge.

Ballard, born Sept. 26, 1982, in Sardis, to Jimmy Williams of Memphis and Lorretta Ballard of Wilson, N.C., was a member of Armstrong Street Church of God. 

Survivors, along with her parents, include: one daughter, Ja’Kirra S. Ballard of Wilson; four brothers, Sante Ballard and Reginald Ballard, both of Wilson, Justin Market and Courtney Pride, both of Batesville and two sisters, Jamine Pride of Jackson, Tenn. and Alena Rose of Memphis.

Stanley Eugene Bullard

SARDIS – Stanley Eugene Bullard, 73, died Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Desoto.

Memorial services will be held Friday at  2 p.m. at Sardis First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Bullard, born June 30, 1941, to the late Charlie and Louise Bullard, farmed until he started a career in the oil refinery business where he eventually retired. 

Survivors include: his wife of 51 years, Pam Bullard; two daughters, Angelisa Weaver and Shawn Bullard; two sisters, Audrey Bonds and Carolyn Bullard, both of Corinth; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


Roger Lee Brownlee

COLDWATER – Roger Lee Brownlee, 58, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 in Coldwater. He was the father of Jerrico Toliver of Sardis.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at New Garden M.B. Church in Coldwater. Visitation will be held Friday 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Rodgers Funeral Home, who has charge of arrangements.

Brownlee was a supervisor at Northwest College.

Survivors, along with his son, include: one daughter, Crystal Young of Coldwater; six brothers, Randy Brownlee of Savannah, Ga., Spencer Burnett of Coldwater, Phillip Burnett of Horn Lake, Willie Burnett, Hershell Burnett and John Burnett, all of Memphis; and two grandchildren.


Sarah Lou Fowler Duncan

Sarah Lou Fowler Duncan, 95, passed away on July 15, 2014 in Punta Gorda, Fla. 

She was preceded in death by her only daughter Fran Wood Key of Searcy, Ark., one sister Corrine Maclay of Missouri, two brothers Sam and Harry Fowler, and her parents Hugh and Fanny Fowler of Batesville. 

Sarah, born November 7, 1918, was a 1936 graduate of Courtland High School and also a 1937 graduate of a private business college in Houston, Texas. She worked for 30 years as a bookkeeper for the House Carlson Clinic in Batesville before retiring in 1985. She then moved to Searcy, Ark. to be near her precious daughter and grandchildren. In 2009, she became a resident of Florida and more recently a resident of Chelsea Place Retirement Living Center until her death. During the 1940’s while living in Long Beach, Calif., she was fortunate enough to meet First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, and to hear the big bands of Glen Miller, Harry James, Benny Goodman, and Tommy Dorsey. She loved music, playing the piano, dancing and she was an exceptional cook. She was a Baptist and so proud to tell anyone that she and the Reverend Billy Graham were born on the same day and in the same hour.  

She is survived by her two granddaughters, Sally Key Brown, (Peter)of St. Louis, Mo. and Jenny Key Johnson, (Marty) of Punta Gorda, Fla.; four great grandchildren, Anna Kate and Haig Brown of St. Louis, Sam and Knox Johnson of Punta Gorda; her son-in-law, Don Key of Batesville and her nieces Ann and Sara Tegethoff, and Nancy Baker.

Funeral services will be held at Wells Funeral Home on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 3 p.m.  She will be laid to rest at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville following the service.



Evelyn Graham

SARDIS–Evelyn Graham, 75, died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion M.B. Church in Sardis. Rev. Cedric Von Jackson will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Morris Chapel Cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home has charge.

Graham, born April 23, 1939, to the late Clifton Graham and Lillie Roberta Stewart, was a retired educator. She attended North Panola and Mississippi Valley State University. She was a member of Mt. Zion M.B. Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Bridgett Graham Mason of Memphis and Sandra Gail Graham of Bogue Chitto; one brother, Birnie Graham of Sardis; one sister, Shirley Robinson of Los Angeles, Calif.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Kathy Gregory Jablonski

POPE – Kathy Gregory Jablonski, 59, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at her residence.

Services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Pope. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Jablonski, born April 29, 1955, in Memphis, to the late Dewery R. and Wilma Dunger Gregory, formerly worked in the accounts payable department at ACI Building Systems and was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Jablonski.

Survivors include: two daughters, Jennifer Boyd Arendale of Arlington, Tenn. and Ellen Feinberg Winters of Southbury, Conn.; one step daughter, Betty Jablonski Powell of Pope; one brother, Rick Gregory of Ridgetop, Tenn. and three grandchildren.


Sharon Tubb Martindale

COURTLAND–Sharon Tubb Martindale, 53, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014.

Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bruce Wilkes will officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Martindale, born Oct. 2, 1960, to Doyle and Joyce Box Tubb of Charleston, worked as a department manager for Walmart in Batesville for 20 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Batesville Shriners Club.

Survivors along with her parents include: her husband of 34 years, Randy Martindale of Courtland; two sons, Chris Martindale and Cliff Martindale, both of Courtland; one sister, Darlene Evans of Oakland; one brother, Wade Tubb of Oakland and two grandchildren.

Deborah A. Montgomery Simpson

BATESVILLE–Deborah A. Montgomery Simpson, 61, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at her residence. 

Services will be held at noon on Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Ward will officiate. Burial will be in Belmont Cemetery. Delta Burial has charge.

Simpson, born May 14, 1953, in Marks, was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Warren Simpson.

Survivors include: one daughter, Tashunda Vaughn of Batesville; her mother, Ruby L. Montgomery of Marks; eight sisters, Carolyn Sue Johnson and Brenda Johnson, both of Milwaukee, Linda Golden of San Antonio, Sheila Thompson of Sledge, Patricia Love of Marks, Pamela Johnson of Wichita, Kansas, Rhonda L. Montgomery of Marks and Stephanie Johnson of Lambert and three brothers, Charles Johnson and Michael Johnson, both of Milwaukee, Wis. and Roderick L. Montgomery of Denver, Colo.
